New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) hosted Detonation 2020 Night One on the most recent episode of New Japan Strong. The marquee match saw Bullet Club member and former IWGP Heavyweight, IWGP Intercontinental, and IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion “Switchblade” Jay White take on recent NJPW Los Angeles (LA) Dojo graduate “Alpha Wolf” Karl Fredericks. White challenges for the IWGP Heavyweight and IWGP Intercontinental ‘Double Championship’ during Wrestle Kingdom 15 Night Two.
While the massive underdog, Fredericks came into the match with an offensive strategy, not backing down from his accomplished opponent. However, Switchblade showed his cunning and experience advantage throughout.
White would gain the fall at the 11 minutes and 6 seconds mark with his Bladerunner technique. In defeat, Fredericks showed that his potential may lead him to the IWGP Heavyweight Championship.
The headline match saw Bullet Club member Tama Tonga take on Super J Cup 2020 Finalist ACH before the Junior Heavyweight tournament took place. While Tama Tonga attempted to slow the pace down, he wasn’t able to keep ACH from giving him a difficult match.
Most of Tama’s career has seen him focus on tag team wrestling, but he showed that he is capable of handling himself within singles competition. He was able to gain the fall at the 11 minutes and 12 seconds mark with his Gunstun Cutter technique.
The second match of the event saw the Bullet Club team of Tanga Loa, “Crown Jewel” Chase Owens, and “Young Gun” Hikuleo take on the team of former IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions FinJuice (Juice Robinson/David Finlay) and Misterioso.
The match was fast-paced, yet it was the Bullet Club team that benefited from the frantic nature of the contest. Tanga Loa gained the fall over Misterioso at the 6 minutes and 26 with his Apesh*t technique.
The opening match saw the third contest between The Reigel Twins (Logan/Sterling Reigel) against NJPW LA Dojo Young Lion and Lion’s Break Crown 2020 winner Clark Connors/The DKC.
Coming into the match, the teams were 1-1 against each other in singles and tag team action. The fast-paced match seemed as if it was going to fall for the Riegel Twins, but The DKC was able to gain the fall over Logan Riegel with a Horizontal Cradle at the 5 minutes and 11 seconds mark.
