New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) presents the second night of the Detonation 2020 later tonight as New Japan Strong wraps up 2020. As typical of New Japan Strong featured events the card consists of four matches.
The marquee match sees former NEVER Openweight Champion, New Japan Cup USA 2020 winner, and Bullet Club member Kenta defend his right to the V3 IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship opportunity against Ring of Honor (ROH) roster member Brody King.
With successful defenses against now Empire member and former NEVER Openweight Champion Jeff Cobb, David Finlay, and former eight-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion Hiroshi Tanahashi — Kenta has shown he is currently on quality form.
A victory for King would secure a spot for him with the main NJPW touring branch in Japan.
The headline match sees “Mr. No Days Off” Fred Rosser team up with the controversial ROH roster member PJ Black take on Team Filthy members Tom Lawlor/JR Kratos. A rivalry has built build Rosser and Lawlor during recent weeks, meaning there will be some tension when the two lock up.
The second match sees Jeff Cobb take on temporary Team Filthy member Rust Taylor. Cobb, who is now a member of the Empire previously had problems with Team Filthy. The clash of styles between the two will provide for an interesting match.
The opening match sees a Junior Heavyweight clash and the continuation of the rivalry between former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion (as Black Tiger) and CHAOS member Rocky Romero against Team Filthy member Danny Limelight.
Romero was recently turned on by Limelight who decided to join Team Filthy, bypassing the opportunity of being mentored by Romero. While opening the event, the matchup between the two could end up being the best match of the night as the two have issues they would like to settle with one another.
