The WWE Slammy Awards will be making a return at the end of this year after a five-year break. The last Slammy Awards took place in 2015, with Seth Rollins winning the Superstar of the Year award, and Nikki Bella winning the Diva of the Year. Brock Lesnar’s battle with The Undertaker at Hell in a Cell won the award for Match of the Year in that particular year. But, which superstars could be the biggest winners at this year’s event?
WWE News: Match Of The Year
The Match of the Year award will be one of the most competitive this year, as there have been a number of outstanding matches to consider. Most recently, the war between Drew McIntyre and Roman Reigns shouldn’t be overlooked from Survivor Series, as it was an instant classic. Meanwhile, Bayley and Sasha Banks’ battle at Hell in a Cell was one of the all-time best Hell in a Cell matches, with Banks ultimately getting the title in the end.
The Men’s Royal Rumble match was also an enjoyable affair in 2020, with Edge making his huge return, and Drew McIntyre eliminating Brock Lesnar. Edge’s 45-minute classic with Randy Orton at Backlash will likely be the favourite to get the win, but it will be no easy feat deciding on a winner.
WWE News: Female Superstar Of The Year
The biggest difference between the 2015 and 2020 awards is the class that is now in the women’s division. No longer will the award be given to the best diva from the calendar year, but the best female superstar. It would be difficult to look anywhere other than Sasha Banks when it comes to this award, as she has enjoyed her best year with the career. She carried the women’s division alongside Bayley as a tag team, before the two of them finally met in a much-anticipated rivalry, which we likely haven’t seen the end of.
WWE News: Male Superstar Of The Year
If you’re judging this for the whole of the past 12 months, then there really is only one winner. Drew McIntyre started the year by winning the Royal Rumble, before then going on to beat Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania. He enjoyed great feuds with Seth Rollins and Randy Orton, and quickly regained the title after briefly losing it. 2020 will be known as the year that McIntyre became a huge star in the WWE, and while Roman Reigns has been excellent for the past couple of months, McIntyre has been the driving force throughout the entire year.
