It was announced earlier today and verified by the WWE, according to Wrestlinginc.com, that Lars Sullivan was released.
According to Wrestlinginc.com, PWInside claims he was released in January following the latest allegation that he sexually harassed a yoga instructor he was working with, as we reported here.
It followed a long list of accusations that saw Sullivan go from a promising wrestling career in the vein of Big John Studd and Kevin Nash to a WWE castoff.
Several chances
Things were looking up for him during his last run when he not only dominated in the ring but had some interview vignettes done where he talked about being bullied until he hurt the bullies and everyone that laughed at him.
He had so much potential to be the in-ring monster we haven’t seen in, well, since Brock Lesnar, but he could’ve been something totally different and unique.
But now that’s going to be in the realm of if only.
To add insult to injury, reports indicate that despite not being well liked backstage due to his past and alleged racial slurs directed at the New Day he still had Vince McMahon’s support.
But even with McMahon’s support, there are only so many chances with any company, and it looks like he used his up.
Release was kept quiet
While there’s plenty of reasons for the WWE to keep their release of him quiet, it seems odd that would do that given such an action would get them some notoriety.
If there’s anything we’ve learned over the last 20 years is that the WWE is a master at turning even bad press into great storylines with their spin, and this could’ve been a missed opportunity for good PR.
Of course, this doesn’t mean Sullivan won’t land elsewhere as a reclamation project; he’s just done with the WWE.
This may be the wakeup call he needs to work on himself, but it’s something that only time will tell.
With his limited wrestling resume and the internet keeping track of his transgressions, his wrestling career is definitely up in the air currently and the WWE will now look elsewhere for their next big man.
Do you think the WWE gave him too may chances and should they have announced his release earlier? What do you think about Lars Sullivan released by the WWE?
