March 10th, 2014 on Monday Night RAW, Christian Cage battled Sheamus in a Memphis Street Fight. Few would have guessed at the time that we wouldn’t see him in televised singles action again until 2021, and that it would be outside of WWE. However, tonight Christian Cage makes his AEW in ring debut against Frankie Kazarian.
They last clashed back in TNA Wrestling (now Impact Wrestling) in 2007, and both have grown a lot since that time. Will Kazarian be able to show that maybe he deserves the hype that Christian came into AEW with?
Frankie Kazarian Out Works Christian
Kazarian & Christian would lock up hard, with Kazarian shoving him into the corner. He’d allow the clean break, before Christian grabbed a headlock. Kazarian managed to shove him off, before taking a shoulder tackle and Christian went right into the pinfall for a two count.
Christian applied a wrist lock, and Kazarian flipped out of it and gained control for an armbar attempt. Kazarian quickly ended up in the headlock, but broke out and sent Christian to the outside with a back elbow to the jaw. Christian was led to the top of the stage, before he slapped the taste out of Kazarian’s mouth.
Kazarian came back by dropping Christian back into the ring, and throwing him hard into the corner. Some heavy right hands caught Christian, who came back with a back elbow and an attempt at a tornado DDT. Kazarian broke free, and shoved Christian to the floor. Christian tried to hit a shoulder to the midsection on Kazarian, only to take a leg drop through the ropes.
Kazarian went for a cravat, working the neck of Christian over and starting to have him fade. Christian would fight back to his feet, and Kazarian hit a neckbreaker in response for a near fall. Kazarian stayed aggressive, but Christian stayed alive. He’d come back with some strikes, but Kazarian won out. Ring rust was looking to be the issue for Christian, but he’d get the Tornado DDT for a two count.
Christian Cage Works Past The Ring Rust
Christian got some heavy blows and a running forearm, before choking Kazarian on the ropes. A big slap sent Kazarian flying, before Christian set up and hit a diving uppercut. Kazarian was set up in the corner and hit some downward punches, but came back with a jackknife pin attempt.
The crossface chickenwing was applied, but Christian countered out and looked to set up the Killswitch. Christian would be countered into a backdrop attempt, but he’d land somewhat clean and hit a signature reverse DDT. A frog splash missed Kazarian, who went back to the Crossface Chickenwing.
Christian was stuck in the middle of the ring, but slowly moved to the ropes to break. Kazarian was back in control, but wasted time trash talking and was rolled up for a two count. He’d come back with a lariat and a springboard leg drop for a two count of his own.
Christian was set up on the top rope for a superplex, and a headbutt from Kazarian instead set up Flux Capacitor for a near fall. Kazarian would block a Killswitch attempt, but missed a leg drop and hit with a hotshot off the ropes. Christian went up top for a Frog Splash, another near fall. Another Killswitch attempt was countered into an attempt at the Crossface Chickenwing. Christian shoved Kazarian into the post to block, and finally hit Killswitch to win.
