Every PPV needs a pre show, and every pre show needs a match. Tonight we have some major stars in this slot, as Riho & Thunder Rosa team up to take on Britt Baker and Rebel, in some AEW Women’s Tag Team Action. Riho, Rosa & Baker were all in the American side of the AEW World Women’s Eliminator championship bracket, but failed to make the finals.
Rebel was to be pulled before the start of the show due to injury, with Britt Baker making a doctor’s note to write her off. She would request a new partner for tonight as well. Would Tony Khan accept this note?
It’s Maki Itoh!!
Before the match, Baker would let everyone know that the doctor for the Jaguars also agreed. Her partner would be Maki Itoh, a standout from the AEW Women’s World Eliminator tournament, an ex-idol turned professional wrestler! Full offense to Rebel, but what an upgrade.
Riho would start with Baker, and grab a quick hammerlock. She would steadily out wrestle the good doctor herself, and dodged a lariat from Baker to hit a dropkick. A headscissor takedown would drop Baker, before Rosa & Itoh got tags in! Rosa wrestled Itoh down to the mat, before applying a crossface.
Itoh fought her way back up, and stubbornly fought off the shoulder tackles of Rosa. Rosa would lay in the shots, causing Itoh to take a tantrum in the ring, before stomping the foot of Rosa and then running into Rosa again to no effect. Itoh finally got some damage with a bulldog, before going for mounted punches in the corner and being flapjacked onto the top buckle.
Thunder Rosa Gets Her Hands On Britt Baker
Riho tagged in and whacked Itoh with a 619, before quickly tagging back out to Rosa to keep the pressure on Itoh. Itoh would get a chance to throw blows with Riho. Baker tripped Riho up and beat her down on the outside, but Itoh missed that cravat despite her giant head.
Riho would have to deal with Baker at this point, and she would pick her apart before getting Itoh back in. Itoh applied a sleeper hold, but Riho was too close to the ropes. Riho hit a stun gun over the top rope on Itoh before crashing down with a crossbody. Rosa & Baker got tags, with Rosa taking the fight to her rival with knee strikes in the corner.
Baker was hit with a double underhook suplex and a running senton for a near fall. Itoh got the tag and threw Rosa into a slingblade from Baker, before hitting the Kokeshi for the near fall. Itoh nailed a swinging DDT, before going up top for the headbutt. She missed, and Rosa got the tag to Riho, who ran into a flash Single Leg Crab from Itoh, and pulled herself to the ropes.
Baker got the tag and hit a Air Raid Crash on Riho, but only got a near fall. An enzuguri from Riho let her tag in Rosa, who was rolled up by Baker. Reba got a cheap shot with a crutch after Baker countered the Fire Thunder driver, and that was all!
Should AEW fully sign Maki Itoh? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
