At Elimination Chamber 2021, Drew McIntyre survived the titular match, only to be run down by Bobby Lashley and have The Miz cash in Money in the Bank to win his second WWE Championship. Lashley quickly won the belt from The Miz, and defended it as well. Now, he has to deal with McIntyre once again, in what should be a classic heavyweight clash fitting for a historic event like Wrestlemania. Drew McIntyre was able to take down Brock Lesnar last year, can he take down Lashley the same way?
Not Even Mother Nature Can Stop Drew McIntyre Tonight
This match was delayed due to storm conditions, and we’d see a backstage interview with Lashley get interrupted by McIntyre who claimed ‘Mother nature can’t save your ass’ and was ready to fight him backstage if he needed to.
This match will happen, no matter what. It was a 34 minute delay before they could get going, but that’s a risk WWE took by running Wrestlemania in Florida during the rain season. When McIntyre finally hit the ring, he was ready to unleash hell on the WWE Champion. Lashley was calm and collected, with MVP in his corner.
As soon as the bell rang, they’d lock up hard. It was a total stalemate, and they’d have to let it go. McIntrye grabbed a headlock and shoved Lashley off, only to be dropped with a shoulder tackle. He’d kip back up and grab that headlock again, and when Lashley got free he got thrown with a Belly To Belly Suplex, before they’d start throwing blows.
A knee to the midsection from Lashley caught McIntyre, before pummeling him in the corner and on the ropes. McIntyre came back and sent Lashley over the top rope to the outside. They’d brawl it out, and Lashley launched McIntyre right into the barricade.
Back in the ring, McIntyre was hit with a spear in the corner before a neckbreaker, getting a two count for the champion. He’d rain down punches on McIntyre, before choking him on the ropes with his boot. McIntyre was sent into the corner, but dodged the spear and Lashley hit the post.
Bobby Lashley Gets Truly Tested As WWE Champion
Lashley would be hit with an armbreaker, before McIntyre showed his technical skills by applying an armbar. McIntyre was unable to get the submission, as Lashley punched his way free before driving McIntyre back into the corner. Lashley was met with some lariats when McIntyre fought free, and another Belly To Belly Suplex.
A jumping neckbreaker was followed by McIntyre kipping up, and setting up Future Shock DDT, but Lashley fought out. McIntyre blocked another charge into the corner and hit a Northern Lights Suplex for a two count. Lashley fought off a submission attempt and nailed up the flapjack for a two count.
McIntyre hit the Glasgow Kiss, and Lashley came back with a big spinebuster for another two count. The Hurt Lock was attempted, but McIntyre fought the attempt and sent Lashley into the corner. He’d hit some hard strikes, before setting up the Reverse Alabama Slam for a near fall.
Lashley was set up on the top rope for a superplex, but fought like hell to save himself. McIntyre would apply the Kimura, but Lashley fought and put McIntyre in the Tree of Woe, only for McIntyre to pop up and hit the Belly To Belly. A claymore was attempted, but McIntyre was countered with a spinebuster. McIntyre was right back up and called for Lashley to bring it. Another Belly To Belly Suplex, and three Future Shock DDTs? Still not enough.
A Wrestlemania Opener For The Ages
McIntyre would count down to the Claymore, but Lashley slipped out of the ring to the outside, only to be met with a Flying Scotsman alongside MVP. Going to the top rope as Lashley went to the middle of the ring, he’d dive off with the axe handle and was almost caught in the Hurt Lock.
Lashley instead hit an Exploder Suplex & Complete Shot, before looking for the hold again. McIntyre made sure he didn’t get it fully applied, and countered a Spinbuster into a Kimura, using a signature move of Brock Lesnar! Lashley would do everything to not tap, and got the bottom rope.
McIntyre would hit a big boot to stop a spear before the Glasgow Kiss. MVP ran a distraction and had McIntyre miss the Claymore. Lashley hit a hard elbow strike and applied the Hurt Lock. McIntyre was fully locked in, and getting drained fast, taking a knee but rising up and digging deep. He’d push off the turnbuckle, but Lashley held on tight and forced the referee stoppage! Still the Almighty WWE Champion, Bobby Lashley!
