Last Friday on Smackdown Live, Roman Reigns again proved that he was the Head of The Table, and worthy of being the WWE Universal Champion with an impressive win over Daniel Bryan. This match came with the added stipulation that should Bryan lose, he would be banished from Smackdown Live forever. However, this might have just been WWE’s way of writing him off WWE programming for good, as it appears his contract with the company has ended.
Daniel Bryan’s Contract Ran Out Last Friday
Earlier this week, it was reported by Fightful Select, Sean Ross Sap and Dave Meltzer that following the match with Roman Reigns, the current WWE contract of Daniel Bryan had ended. It was thought on the build to the match that his deal lasted through September 2021, but this no longer seems to be the case. WWE are working to try to get him to agree to a new contract, as he is one of their biggest stars.
If WWE is able to get him to re-sign, it will likely have to be on a lucrative part-time contract. Bryan has cited burn out up to and even during the Wrestlemania main event match with Edge & Roman Reigns, despite still giving his usual great performances.
ROH & AEW Reaching Out To Bryan?
With ROH in the middle of rebuilding their company, and looking to bring in Samoa Joe, it’s clear they are expected to reach out to Daniel Bryan. Bryan truly built his legacy first in Ring of Honor, and has remained in touch with the company in recent years. Bryan or Joe making their ways back to ROH would be absolutely huge, unlike the rather flat return of Homicide.
AEW would also be fools to miss out on trying to get Daniel Bryan on their roster. While there is a lot of talent already barely being used in AEW, someone like Daniel Bryan would shoot his way right to the top of the company for a proper match with Kenny Omega. They’ve met in an excellent triple threat match for ROH which also included Tyler Black (aka Seth Rollins), and a comedy match for PWG. We’ve never seen their current top level forms face each other, which would be a major match for sure.
