Right now in All Elite Wrestling, The Elite are finally on top. Kenny Omega is the AEW World Champion and The Young Bucks are the AEW World Tag Team Champions. Add in The Good Brothers and Don Callis, and you have one dominant and annoying faction to deal with.
However, even on Being The Elite, you used to see Cody Rhodes around. That hasn’t been the case for a while, and has led some fans to think there was some backstage heat between Rhodes & The Elite, mainly driven by rumor. What’s really going on here?
Not Wanting To Bring Rhodes Into The Current Elite Drama
While this backstage heat is merely just rumor with nothing confirmed by anyone in AEW or respected in the industry, there likely is a reason why Rhodes isn’t in the mix of The Elite right now. There has been a lot of drama in the group recently between The Young Bucks & Kenny Omega before they joined up. A storyline doing the same with Cody Rhodes wouldn’t be much different than this.
Add in that a feud between Kenny Omega & Cody Rhodes is potentially a major angle for AEW, and it’s clear why you wouldn’t want to potentially tease that too easy. That is a match that could sell out a major arena for AEW, and was proven to be good in ROH & NJPW. Simply put, an angle with Rhodes & The Elite would be too similar to what we just saw with The Young Bucks, and it’d waste a proper money match as well.
Establishing Anthony Ogogo As A Threat Before Taking Time Off
The rumors also hinge on Rhodes being put in a “midcard” feud with QT Marshall right now due to the backstage heat, which misses the true purpose of that entire feud. QT Marshall might be the person who brought The Factory together, but it’s always been clear that he is not the star. From the moment this group came together, it’s clear that Anthony Ogogo is the main star.
His one AEW match ended in under a minute from a punch, which has also taken out Cody Rhodes twice, including after the match of Cody Rhodes & QT Marshall at Blood & Guts. This has set up a match between Rhodes & Ogogo, which could be the launching point of Ogogo as a major contender in AEW. Rhodes is set to take some time off soon as Brandi Rhodes gets closer to the birth of their baby girl, and Ogogo being the one to take him out would be huge.
While anything is possible in the world of wrestling, Rhodes and The Elite have shown no signs of issues. Do you think there is something behind the scenes which has kept Rhodes off Being The Elite? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
