Since at least May 2020, we’ve been seeing some Twitter beef from Drew McIntyre and Tyson Fury. The former WWE Champion and the heavyweight boxing champion have been keeping the heat on with this feud, to the point where McIntyre would mention it in his recently published autobiography. However, it seemed like we were never going to actually see these two face off, until Fury was spotted backstage at Wrestlemania Backlash.
Tyson Fury Had Brought His Son Backstage To Wrestlemania: Backlash
Following the conclusion of the most recent WWE PPV event, we’d see Tyson Fury post pictures to Instagram of himself hanging out backstage at the event. He’d brought his son to see the show, who got to meet both Rey Mysterio and Vince McMahon. If it wasn’t due to the on-going beef with Drew McIntyre, this would be otherwise unremarkable. But Fury being backstage at a WWE event right now could mean this match is finally coming.
It would be unlikely for Fury to be hanging out backstage and this match not being discussed. We’ve previously learned that this Fury vs. McIntyre match was originally scheduled for a planned PPV event in the UK, where Fury & McIntyre are potentially major draws for WWE. This event was unable to happen due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and likely won’t happen for some time.
How Will WWE Use Fury Ahead Of A Major Fight?
Sadly, we won’t even be able to see this fight happen in the coming months unless WWE has something cinematic planned. Tyson Fury’s next fight is scheduled for August, where he will fight Anthony Joshua over the right to be called the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion. WWE would have to wait until after August to get Fury into the ring, but there are options if he’s sticking around in the meantime.
He could follow in the footsteps of Mike Tyson and serve as a guest enforcer for a match that involves his current WWE rival, Drew McIntyre. WWE could set the date of their fight for September, and Fury could be around to ensure that McIntyre makes it there. McIntyre failed to capture the WWE Championship at Wrestlemania: Backlash, and is likely set to start feuding with Jinder Mahal. Fury could simply serve to hold Veer & Shanky back during this coming match, allowing him a safe to appear in WWE while finally pushing this feud forward.
