Many will argue for years that Ricochet & Mustafa Ali are being wasted in WWE, and maybe someday when not under contract they will agree. Until then, they will do everything in their power to hype up a match between them, even if it’s on a show like Main Event. All week on social media, they’ve done everything they could to promote this show, even if WWE wouldn’t. It’s built up some serious hype for this encounter, but who would come out as the victor?
Ricochet Catches Mustafa Ali For The Win
Ricochet came in fast with a dropkick, before punching away at Ali. Ali sent Ricochet off the ropes, only to be hit with a crossbody block and some punches. Fleeing to the outside, Ricochet followed Ali before driving him back into the ring where he nailed a springboard clothesline. Ali was cornered for some punches, but was able to shove Ricochet off only to get caught again.
A facebuster from Ali out of the corner got him some space, before he’d stomp Ricochet down. Ricochet went for an enziguri, but Ali countered into a dragon screw. Ali would focus on the leg as he set up a one legged boston crab in the middle of the ring. The leg of Ricochet was trapped in the rope and ankle, before Ali went for and missed a splash.
Ricochet slipped to the apron, and made his way to the top rope before he was cut down. Ali was shoved off the top rope, and Ricochet came down with a shooting star press to standing Ali, hurting his knee on the way down. Ricochet would catch Ali with a quick lariat and a Dragon Suplex for a two count. The knee of Ricochet became an issue after a kick, and Ali nabbed a roll up with his feet on the ropes. Referee caught this before Ricochet countered into a quick pinfall with some help of the ropes for the win!
Ricochet & Ali didn’t get a ton of time for this match, but managed to shove a strong story and some fast paced action into the mix. These two really won’t have a bad match with each other, just potentially generic ones. They did a good job building a lot of hype for this one, but it failed to deliver on that. Match Rating: 2/5 (**)
