Ever since FTR joined AEW, there has been a dream match that many fans have been craving. They’re easily one of the best tag teams in the world, and so are Santana & Ortiz. Both teams can tout fighting for their family, coming from rough upbringings, and wanting to be the best tag team in the world. Tonight, they clash for the first time, in what could be the greatest tag team match AEW has seen all year.
FTR Get Ortiz In The Wrong Part Of Town
Despite being the hometown boys, FTR didn’t get as big of a reaction as Santana & Ortiz. Ortiz would start with Wheeler, and Wheeler went right for some mat wrestling to grab a one count. A side headlock takeover from Ortiz would take Wheeler down, before he’d lose control and catch Wheeler with a nasty monkey flip, sending him to the outside.
Santana & Harwood would come in and trade lariats, before Santana would go for the Three Amigos, with Ortiz helping with the final suplex before hitting a powerbomb combo on Wheeler. Konnan & Tully would stare each other down on the outside, before Harwood nailed a major spinebuster for a two count.
FTR would look to isolate Ortiz, and they’d succeed in cutting the ring in half throughout the picture in picture break. Some serious damage would be done with some strikes in the corner, before Ortiz got an enziguri as we went back to full screen. Santana tagged in alongside Harwood and sent him head first into the ringpost with a toss before taking Wheeler out with a dive to the floor.
Santana & Ortiz Was Unable To Claim The Win Tonight
Harwood dodged a foot stomp from Santana, before Ortiz got a blind tag in and a roll up for a two count. Santana & Ortiz would hit a powerbomb into a frog splash for a two count, before laying some chops into the chest of Harwood. Harwood would try his best to fight free but took a big German Suplex. He’d fire up and nail a massive lariat, before Wheeler snuck in and hit a big DDT.
Santana sent him out of the ring, before nailing a big powerbomb on Harwood for a two count. Ortiz tagged in and walked into an inside cradle, before FTR looked for the old Power & Glory finisher. Santana made the save before being faked out into a DDT from Harwood, before Harwood nailed a superplex.
Harwood was countered into an inside cradle, but both mens shoulders were down so no count was finished. Back in the middle of the ring, Harwood nailed a brainbuster, and was able to get the three count end this match. Wheeler was bleeding at ringside, potentially giving this match a more sudden finish.
This match met the hype, despite an abrupt finish. Santana & Ortiz vs. FTR could be one of the best tag team feuds in AEW history, with this simply being the first installment. Just great fast paced and hard hitting tag team action from both sides. Match Rating: 4/5 (****)
