Tonight is a match that will truly shape the coming landscape of AEW. The Elite currently have a stranglehold on the top titles in the company, with Kenny Omega holding the AEW World Championship, and The Young Bucks the AEW World Tag Team Championships. Tonight, they bring The Good Brothers along as they look to defeat Hangman Page & The Dark Order in a 5 vs. 5 elimination tag team match. If Page & Dark Order win, they get title shots, but if they lose? It’s bottom of the rankings again for them.
Big Entrances For A Huge Match
Before the music of Page even hit, the crowd was chanting ‘Cowboy shit’ as a video package played and a special version of his theme played. With new Dark Order inspired gear, he was backed by Evil Uno, Stu Greyson, Alex Reynolds and John Silver. We’d get a Space Jam inspired introduction for The Elite, giving both teams huge memorable entrances. They’d shoot some baskets, before getting into the ring.
Page would want to start with Omega, but Omega would send Anderson in instead. A headlock caught Anderson, and he’d shove Page off only to take a shoulder tackle. Anderson was chucked with a fallaway slam before Omega hit from behind. A brawl broke out, and The Elite looked for a quadruple suplex, before Dark Order nailed it instead.
On the outside, another brawl started and Reynolds wanted to fly, but instead perplexed Nick Jackson into the pile. Back in the ring , Anderson would look to isolate Reynolds in the corner as The Elite nailed some charges into the corner. Dark Order yanked them out and Gallows would take some blows next, before Anderson was hit with the Stunner into German Suplex for a two count.
Reynolds would lariat Gallows over the top rope after he broke the pinfall up, and Anderson grabbed a roll up with some rights for a three count. Dark Order would surround Anderson, and he’d take some blows before falling to Fatality to take him out. This one is evened up again.
Evil Uno countered a blow from Matt Jackson, before John Silver tagged in. Jackson was thrown across the ring with, before Uno & Greyson tagged in and hit an assisted sit out powerbomb for a two count, Omega breaking it up. Silver launched some stiff mid-kicks, before tagging out.
Dark Order Starts To Lose Their Ground
Uno & Greyson would hit a double team before Nick broke the pinfall up. Greyson kept control of Matt all the same, before Gallows got a tag and accidentally booted Matt out. Gallows would get beaten down, before Greyson looked for the Nightfall Backbreaker, but couldn’t get it. Instead a big kick dropped Gallows for a 450 Splash, but Omega saved the pin.
Gallows was sent to the outside after a breakdown scuffle, and Greyson would crash onto the pile with the Skytwister Press. A brawl into the crowd suited Greyson fine, as he dove out of the stands onto Gallows, before both men got counted out. Uno & Omega would face off, and take him down with a running hurricanrana and flatliner for a two count. Omega blocked the Swanton Bomb, and nailed a V-Trigger and One Winged Angel to make this match 3-2 for The Elite.
Silver would dash into the ring with a spear to Matt, before having his eyes gouged. Nick tagged in and hit a rising knee and spiked bulldog, before Silver took a leg lariat. A basketball was thrown into the ring, and Nick nailed the three pointer before The Bucks went after Page. A powerbomb onto the apron hurt Page’s lower back, and they’d mock him and Silver, who was without a tag option.
Silver would fire up and seek to take out The Young Bucks, tossing Matt to the outside before catching Nick with a gamiguri before the UFO for a two count. More hard kicks followed before Omega ran in with a V-Trigger and German Suplex. Silver was dazed and Cutler moved the basketball net over, and The Young Bucks nailed the dunk and Indytaker to Silver.
Hangman Page Does Some Cowboy Shit
Back in the ring, Silver was crushed with the BTE Trigger, and it was 3-1 for The Elite. Page would stare down his former friends, and Omega would enter the ring and take his shirt off. After a war of words, Omega spit in the face of Page before they’d trade blows. Omega nailed a V-Trigger and Page the rolling elbow. Bucks nailed a superkick party, before Omega hit a German Suplex and a triple superkick with The Bucks.
Page was held on the ropes for the 450 Splash, but still managed to kick out. He dodged a V-Trigger and nailed a lariat. The Young Bucks took a double lariat and sent outside, before Page moonsaulted into The Elite. Back in the ring, Page looked for Deadeye, but had to opt for the High Angle Powerbomb.
Matt tagged in and was able to block the Buckshot before Page blocked the Indytaker and hit a double buckshot, pinning Matt to make this 2-1. Omega grabbed the belt, but Page dodged and nailed Deadeye for a two count. Page looked for another buckshot, but Omega dodged and hit the belt shot but Page survived. Two V-Triggers and One Winged Angel, and The Elite wins.
An absolutely insane 10 man tag team match, with The Elite proving to be the top heels in AEW. Dark Order were the crowd favorites, and that made this loss heartbreaking. It makes the path unclear for Page & Dark Order, but this storyline is just getting started. Match Rating: 4.25/5 (**** 1/4)
