With the “Summer of Cena” underway, the WWE hasn’t missed and opportunity to push their former champion and mega star.
After appearing on last week’s Smackdown and Raw, the fans in attendance got a treat the rest of us wish we’d gotten to see live, and that’s Cena in the ring.
Yep, John Cena has been wrestling dark matches after the last two WWE televised broadcasts to help hone things for his feud with Reigns as well as give the fans something to talk about.
Smackdown match
On last week’s WWE Smackdown, Cena started the show by calling out Roman Reigns and demanded an answer.
Reigns didn’t come out, but Paul Heyman did and he trolled Cena as few could before heading into the back and leaving Cena speechless.
The televised portion ended with Reigns refusing Cena’s challenge but accepting Finn Balor’s.
It was meant to give us watching at home something to look forward to, but in the information age and fans with phones it comes across more as a bad decision, but it’s what they’ve done for years.
For better or for worse.

The above fan video taken by @HeelAndrade showed a six man tag match between John Cena and the Mysterios and Reigns and the Usos.
We don’t want to spoil it for you, but Reigns plays his heel role to perfection and left everyone wanting more from both of them.
This match was reportedly repeated two more times over the weekend before Cena appeared in a dark match on the following Raw.
Raw’s dark match
Cena didn’t appear on the televised Raw, but after the show went off the air, he came out and teamed with Riddle to face T-Bar and Mace in another tag team match.
While we haven’t seen any videos, rumor has it the match went for about 10 minutes and Riddle wrestled most of the match with Cena coming in to hit his signature moves, ending with an Attitude Adjustment on Mace for the win.
It appears Cena tagging in and entrance received the biggest pops of the night, displaying a high probability that John Cena will face off with Reigns and Balor in a Triple Threat at SummerSlam.
At this point, it feels like a foregone conclusion as the house shows are building up their feud, and the fans are showing how starved they are to see their favorites after being kept away for the last year.
Should John Cena be added as a triple threat or get a singles match? Let us know in the comments below.
