When AEW was able to sign Malakai Black to a contract earlier than expected due to a paperwork issue on behalf of WWE, they got a potential main event player. Black has everything you need to hit that level, from a great look, the ability to have fantastic matches, and solid talent on the microphone. Add in his character work, and you have someone who will be a major player. However, none of those are his best assets, as that belongs to his willingness to keep learning.
Malakai Black Is Under The Learning Tree Of Jake The Snake Roberts
While speaking on the Wrestling Perspective Podcast, he would express how important it is to keep on learning, even this late into his career. In AEW, they have brought in many veterans of the industry to help new and old talent alike, but there is one in particular who has been a massive help to Black since joining up.
“Right now one of the things I’ve been doing is I’ve been talking to Jake, Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts, about like his promo work and stuff. I just want to get inside his head. I want him to talk, right? Twenty one years in or not, that’s Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts. You’d have to be an idiot not to talk to him about that stuff. That’s what it’s all about. And I think that a lot of the old timers, they have so much valuable information. They have such a great perspective on wrestling, and they have so many things to tell you.”
There are few people more prominent in the industry for their promos than Jake Roberts, and anyone could learn something from him; regardless of their experience level.
However The Time For Talking Is Done For Now
On the next episode of AEW Dynamite, their Fight For The Fallen special, Black will make his in-ring debut. Since joining AEW, he has targeted Cody Rhodes, and they will finally clash at this event. It’s a first time ever match, and one that truly could have fit onto a PPV card. They’ve built up the tension very well, and now it’s finally time to let it loose in the ring.
It’s unclear who will come out on top in this match, but many would agree that it would be a mistake to have Rhodes come out on top over a new star in the company, especially one as potentially big for them as Black. It’s gonna be interesting to watch, and should keep fans on the edge of their seats.
