While it almost looked like Bronson Reed was on his way to the WWE main roster, having worked a few dark matches and losing the NXT North American Championship soon after? He’s not going anywhere just yet, unless it’s to the top of the card. Tonight, he will look to take on one of the best NXT has ever had in Adam Cole. If he can defeat Cole, he could be the next top contender for the NXT Championship.
Bronson Reed Takes A Seat
Cole would go behind on Reed before being shoved off. A huge shoulder tackle would drop Cole, before Reed looked for a scoop slam. Cole slipped off his shoulders and attacked the knee, trying to chop him down to size. Reed would swat Cole out of mid-air, before looking to press slam Cole.
It was a long way down to the mat for Cole, and an elbow drop would follow. Cole tried to get a sunset flip, but Reed sat down on him. The referee wouldn’t count the pin, as Reed’s leg was under the rope. Cole would be rolled to the apron, but resist being suplexed in the hard way.
He’d drag Reed to the outside and throw him into the barricade and steps before taking him back into the ring. Cole would keep the pressure on Reed, going after the previously attacked knee. If you can take away the vertical base, Reed loses a lot of his power and speed.
Adam Cole Remains The Measuring Stick Of NXT
Reed would have his leg attacked with a reverse single leg crab, before being hit with a DDT to the foot. A dragon screw leg whip kept the damage coming, before it was tied up in the rope and kicked away by Cole. Some hip drops kept the pain coming, but Reed would try to fight through.
Reed fired back with some chops and elbows before hitting a body block in the corner, then the middle of the ring. A running senton got a two count, before Reed nailed a suplex lift into a Death Valley Driver for a two count. Cole avoided a powerbomb and took a heavy elbow strike, before rushing into a Shining Wizard for a two count.
Some pump kicks to the face of Reed would be followed by a superkick attempt, which Reed countered into more chops in the corner. In the corner, Cole would set up the Panama Sunrise, but Reed somehow kicked out at two. Cole would expose the knee for the Last Shot, but ran into a lariat and big powerbomb. Reed went up top, and crashed down with Tsunami, but missed Cole, who nailed Last Shot for the win.
A solid TV main event between two of NXT’s top names, with Cole showing his high ring IQ. Reed looked solid like usual, but was not on the level of Cole tonight. With more time and a bigger crowd this match has potential, but for a first clash, this was fine. Match Rating: 3.25/5 (*** 1/4)
What is next for Adam Cole in NXT? A steel chair to the back from Kyle O’Reilly seems to indicate that he’s still got some unfinished business. A brainbuster on the steel steps left him laying, as we fade to black. Will this third Cole vs. O’Reilly match come at Takeover? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
