Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey arrived back in his hometown Uvalde, Texas in the aftermath of the Texas school shooting at Robb Elementary School.
Matthew McConaughey Arrives In Texas To Support Those Mourning Following The Texas School Shooting-‘Thank You Matthew For Helping To Heal’
The shootings took the lives of 19 children and 2 adults, sending mourning across the United States. And this issue certainly hit home for Matthew in more ways than one.
Not only is he from Texas, but he was also considering the prospect of running for Governor of Texas, which demonstrated that he had the interests of his people at heart. And so it showed.
In the picture here, we can see Matthew has visited the employees at Uvalde school district. He was accompanied by Republican Tony Gonzales, as they posed with the employees, as they gathered together for a group photo.
The post was captioned by the following comments: “Thank you Matthew for helping to heal our community. Your visit brought so many smiling faces to Uvalde. See you soon my friend.”
This was more than just a photo opportunity, however. Matthew’s mother happened to be a teacher herself. She had worked at St. Philip’s Episcopal School, which just so happens to be within a mile of where the shooting took place.
Therefore, the actor felt it was only right that he should be giving back in some way by at least showing his support. And yet, the fact that he was alongside Republican Gonzales did not go down too well.
The representative had spoken out previously in favour of preventing gun control during a tweet in 2021. Naturally, that began to resurface in the aftermath of this incident.
In a tweet at the time, Mark stated: “I am a proud supporter of the Second Amendment and will do everything I can to oppose gun grabs from the far left.”
The event has left many people in shock. With that being said, time will tell how Mark and Matthew approach gun control going forward. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
