The second match from New Japan Pro Wrestling’s (NJPW) 2020 New Beginning in Osaka event saw Roppongi 3K (Sho/Yoh) make their V1 defense of their fourth reign of the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship against the Suzuki-Gun tandem of Yoshinobu Kanemaru and El Desperado.
Since both nights of The New Beginning in Sapporo, the Suzuki-Gun team focused their offense on the leg of Sho — building the psychology that was present during the championship match in Osaka. Despite Suzuki-Gun’s efforts to limit Sho, Yoh was able to make the difference throughout the match.
Kanemaru and Desperado showed why they are such an effective tag team, even though they don’t receive much international recognition for being a top team. While Roppongi 3K plays the role of the good looking, pure babyface team better than nearly any team in professional wrestling at this point.
The champions were able to capture victory after hitting Kanemaru with the STRONG X, the Shock Arrow/Top Rope Double Stomp, move they debuted at night-two of Wrestle Kingdom 14 on El Phantasmo.
After Roppongi 3K was victorious, Ryusuke Taguchi came to the ring, and prompted his Mega Coaches (And Roppongi 3K coach) tag team partner, Rocky Romero to challenge Roppongi 3K for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship after their strong Super Junior Tag League run last year.
Roppongi 3K accepted the challenge, and the match is set to headline on February 20th during a New Japan Road event. While Romero and Taguchi have never won the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship together, Romero is a former 8x champion, and Taguchi is a former 8x holder of the title.
