Lion’s Break Crown 2020: Finals Analysis
NJPW elimination matches allow for eliminations through pinfall, submission, and by throwing a wrestler over the top rope and both feet hitting the floor.
In a somewhat surprising display, the Rocky Romero led team got off to a hot start and looked as if they were going to one-up the Bullet Club faction, yet due to the underhanded tactics of Jay White Bullet Club was able to right the ship.
However, David Finlay was able to get the last laugh as he was able to eliminate Kenta over the top rope at the 16 minutes mark, and was the last man remaining for either team.
Finlay made his claim to challenge Kenta for the opportunity to make the V3 challenge for the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship during the current (2nd) reign of Jox Moxley. Kenta defeated Finlay during the New Japan Cup USA 2020 Finals for the title opportunity.
The headline match saw the finals of the Lion’s Break Crown tournament take place as NJPW LA Dojo Young Lion Clark Connors took on Danny Limelight.
Limelight was able to take the fight to Connors throughout the match, forcing the Young Lion to wrestle from his back foot and rely on counters to slow down his opponent.
However, Connors was eventually able to gain the submission fall over Limelight with the Full Crab at the 12 minutes and 36 seconds mark to become the first-ever Lion’s Break Crown winner.
The opening match saw “Mr. No Days Off” Fred Rosser, “.50 Caliber” Barrett Brown, and Adrian Quest team to face Misterioso Jr, Logan Riegel, and “All Heart” Blake Christian.
In what was a fast-paced match, the teams traded the advantage throughout stretches of the match.
Blake Christian was able to gain the fall over Brown at the 10 minutes 30 seconds mark with his Elia Spinning Top Rope Splash technique.
During the event, it was announced the NEVER tour was beginning next week on New Japan Strong and would showcase Junior Heavyweight vs Heavyweight matches throughout.
