We love interviews with sports stars, and especially wrestlers as it’s always cool to get a glimpse behind the curtain and hear some advice or stories about their time in the business.
During WWE’s recent European Tour in Paris< France, they were interviewed for the Youtube channel SO CATCH by Hal 2 and gave their thoughts on what it takes to have a long career and on WrestleMania being a two night affair.
They discussed other topics as well, and it was cool to see Bobby Lashley and Natalya in a relaxed environment and just talking about the topics.
Lashley may have been kinder and gentler than he is in the ring, but we get to see a flash of his wrestling persona when he talked about MVP and the Hurt Business.
On working with different wrestlers
Lashley has had a great career that’s led him to be an elder statesman as well as having some great matches.
When he was about working with Omos and taking him under his wing, he replied that he’s grateful to have had so many take care of him over the years and he wants to give back and help those coming up.
It’s the same with MVP, and this is where kayfabe kicked in, as he said it’s a sensitive subject at the moment. He mentioned how MVP grabbed hold of his coattails and made a lot of money without wrestling matches.
He continued that there comes a time when you buy into another’s confidence in you and that’s what MVP did for him, Shelton Benjamin, and Cedric Alexander as they all won gold thanks to MVP’s push.
He’s a fan of combat sports and loves wrestling and all the different styles, and he loves being able to wrestle so many different styles as it helps keep him fresh and young.
He’d love to face Brock Lesnar again without Roman Reigns jumping in. It wasn’t s dream match of his, but one everyone said had to happen at some point. He wants a chance to beat up Lesnar on his terms and that’s a match we’d love to see.
Natalya and Baszler are a lot alike
Natalya was asked about what it’s like working with Baszler and she said they’re very similar as Baszler is a submission specialist while she came from the dungeon.
Baszler’s a cool person out of the ring and she loves combat sports as a former MMA fighter, and is very passionate about the wrestling business.
Working smarter
When the topic of his longevity came up, Lashley said it’s about taking care of your body, and for him that meant being a gym fanatic and always working out.
But he added as he’s gotten older, he’s learned to work smarter so he started to pace himself more so he can keep going.
Natalya seconded that and said the most important thing is to have a passion for wrestling. It’s important to remember it’s a marathon and not a sprint.
She loves the diversity of the sport and the different styles, and like Lashley, it helps keep things fresh and motivated.
On WrestleMania’s two nights
To close it out, Natalya said she likes it because people in general have short attention spans now and asking them to sit through an 8 hour program is a bit much, so splitting it between two nights works great.
Plus, it gives more wrestlers a chance to take part on the Grandest Stage and create their own moments.
Lashley added that he enjoys WrestleMania being a two night affair because it gives fans more of an opportunity to soak in the experience and really enjoy themselves.
There’s so much to take in and it allows more chance for everyone to soak it up.
This was a fun interview and we hope to see more interviews with them in the future. The opening with him and Natalya not realizing they were filming was great and a cool glimpse into the interactions we don’t get to see much of.
Sometimes, it’s the little things that help us connect with others.
