While his pal Tommy End / Malakai Black was able to get back on the road within 30 days due to a potential paperwork issue, it will be a longer road for the man formerly known as Buddy Murphy. The former NXT Cruiserweight & RAW Tag Team Champion was released on the same day as Black, and is looking forward to August 31st, 2021 when his WWE contract officially ends. However, Murphy has recently made the news with the way that he would keep up with the product he was part of.
Buddy Murphy Would Watch A 5 Minute Recap Instead
A clip from a recent Q&A from Murphy has been making the rounds, where he would describe how he kept up with the product of WWE. “I would go on YouTube and I think it’s called WrestleTalk or something like that, and they’d review the show in five minutes. That’s how I kept up with the product, I couldn’t watch it.”This clip does lack a lot of context, such as what show Murphy is even referring too, though most assume either Monday Night RAW or Smackdown Live.
Especially during the past few months, WWE has become a chore to watch as the Thunderdome has sapped a lot of the energy and life out of a wrestling event. That issue might be fixed as WWE gets back in front of live crowds, but when the wrestlers themselves aren’t even keeping track by watching the show? You know there have been problems. This could have also come from Murphy being burnt out over lack of use in WWE, often being shoved to the side despite his insane talent and major fan support.
Planting Seeds For Match With Malakai Black
While we are still over a month away from any company potentially signing Buddy Murphy to a contract, he has started to plant seeds for another encounter with Black. They had some high profile matches in 2019, which were considered some of the best TV matches of the year. Their hard hitting styles meshed perfectly, and fans are very interested to see what they could manage outside of WWE.
In regards to the debut of Black on AEW last night, Murphy told him to “not forget about me” and Black simply responded with his name, showing the message was received. Murphy would be a solid addition to any company, and with Tony Khan having more surprises planned for the coming weeks and months? We will just have to wait and see if Murphy will become Elite.
