As always we are here at the Performance Center for WWE Friday Night SmackDown. Tonight we’ll see the last two SmackDown MITB Qualifying matches, one pitting Otis against his rival Dolph Ziggler, the other seeing Mandy Rose match up with Carmella. They’re also advertising a Firefly Funhouse episode this evening. But the first to come out is none other than Daniel Bryan! I’ll never get used to WWE shows starting out with a match. He faces off with King Corbin up next. They do a run down of the Men’s Money In The Bank participants – Bryan and Corbin are both in that match.
And nevermind, Bryan has a mic. Also his hair has funnily regrown to the same point it was when he first won MITB. He says it’s no secret that he loves what he does. And at this stage of his career what he loves most is tackling new challenges and trying new things. That’s why he’s excited that in nine days he gets to compete in one of the most unique matches in WWE history. It’s not taking place here, it’s taking place in WWE Headquarters. They will fight from the grand floor to the roof to reach that briefcase. Inside is a contract for a championship match any time, any place. He’s competed in a lot of weird and wild places. Western barns, gas stations, pawn shops… but this is the first time wrestling in HQ. Says he doesn’t even know the rules, can he just ride the elevator all the way to the top? Will he get fined for ‘accidentally’ breaking something? Is it true that Vince McMahon has real dinosaur bones in his office? Bryan doesn’t know but we’re all about to find out!
Says nine years ago, he couldn’t even get booked on SmackDown, but then he won the Money In The Bank ladder match. From there he became World Heavyweight Champion and that’s what spawned the Yes! Movement. It made his whole career. It’s true, it’s easy to overlook how big that initial World Heavyweight title win was given how they booked him, but everything really snowballed from that first run. Bryan says he wanted nothing more than to have his best friend Drew Gulak participating in that match as well. But then Corbin and his cronies screwed him over last week. And that’s why he wants to face Corbin in the ring tonight this week.
King Corbin makes his way out and says Bryan should know better than to call him out, people like him always make life miserable for people like Bryan. Shows a replay of the attack last week and laughs. Says Bryan isn’t the only person in the match who won MITB before, at WWE HQ he will stand tall and look down on all of his subjects. Bryan asks what he’ll do if he wins, will he squander the opportunity like last time? Of the 24 MITB winners, Corbin is one of four to have completely blown it. How does it even happen? Has a shot any time he wants and he blew it! Doesn’t make him a king, it makes him a loser!
Corbin ain’t happy about that, warns him not to end up like Gulak or Elias. Says Bryan used to be young and hungry but now he’s old and desperate, even hired Gulak as a coach. Corbin promises to take him down and moves up to the apron. They’re about to face off after the commercial break.
