One of the understated veterans of the WWE roster is Shelton Benjamin. Since his return to WWE in 2017, he has been a steady hand in the undercard and tag team division of WWE. His peak came when he teamed with Chad Gable in the fall of 2017, where they would put on some fantastic matches with The Usos but fail to capture the Smackdown Tag Team Championships. He will be remaining with the company for the foreseeable future, as he has signed a new deal with WWE
A Fixture Of Live Events & Main Event
While Shelton Benjamin isn’t seen often on Monday Night RAW, he is a great asset to less visible WWE programming. He is constantly competing at WWE live events and on Main Event, which is taped every week before RAW begins. This ensures that WWE always has a veteran talent on hand, and with Shelton still being a top level worker at 44 years old, he can fit into any opening they need him too.
Doesn’t matter if you need him for a squash match to make Aleister Black look strong, or someone to go out and have a competitive match with Seth Rollins, Benjamin is there and capable. WWE could absolutely be doing more with him, but seeing as he accepted the new deal, he can’t be too mad about his standing in WWE.
Shelton Benjamin And His Connection To Brock Lesnar
One thing that will also keep Shelton valuable to WWE is that he is best friends with one of their biggest stars. Shelton & Brock Lesnar have been friends since college, and even came up through WWE developmental together alongside names like John Cena, Randy Orton and Batista. They would work as a tag team known as The Minnesota Stretching Crew, and they held the OVW Southern Tag Team Championship three times together. That remains the only tag team championship that Brock Lesnar has held in his career. You will see them interact on occasion, like in the Royal Rumble when they embraced before Lesnar threw his friend out of the ring.
