Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) confirmed the teams for the National Women’s Tag Team Tournament. The company is reviving many national titles as of late.
The promotions shared the following:
As soon as the fighting activities are resumed in the Arena México, the two phases will begin where 10 duos will seek to be crowned the new National Women’s Tag Team Champions.
These are the pairs that will look first for the two tickets to the grand final to be the monarchs:
Silhouette and the Magnificent
Marcela and Skadi
Lluvia and La Jarochita
Tiffany and Reyna Isis
The Commander and The Seductress
Princess Sugehit and Sanely
Dalys and The Infernal
Estrellita and Mystique
Poppy and La Metálica
La Vaquerita and La Guerrera
Lucha Blog reported his theory on how the company will utilize the tournament:
As mentioned previously, these would’ve been five team blocks. The winner of the seeding battle royal would get a double bye to the block final, while the other four teams would have to win twice just to meet them. Princesa Sugehit is the most important CMLL luchador who doesn’t already have a championship belt, so her and Sanely appear to be the favorites.
Planeta Lucha, a Spanish website, reported that the tournament was established as the following:
There will be 2 heats to find 2 finalist couples who will fight to get the National Championship for Women’s Pairs, the first phase will take place on March 15, the second phase will take place on March 22 and the grand final will be on March 29 both the qualifying rounds and the final will take place within the functions of the Family Sundays at Arena México.
As we reported earlier, CMLL has postponed many of their shows. The COVID-19 has forced the hand of the Wrestling and Boxing commission in Mexico, postponing everything for April 20. Not only CMLL, but AAA has canceled their show, including Rey de Reyes, which was going to feature the AAA Mega Champion, Kenny Omega.
It is now expected that in the summer we can find the National Women’s Tag Team Tournament. It’s been reported that CMLL wants to keep reviving these kinds of titles. The National titles often go to newer talent. The best example is Los Nuevos Dinamitas (Sanson, Forastero & Cuatrero). They are currently the National Trios Champions. They are extremely talented, but, as CMLL is designed, it still takes time to have them at the top of the card.
