The day after the New Japan Cup finals New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) returns the next day with the Dominion featured event. In the first of three announced championship matches, IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Golden Ace (Hiroshi Tanahashi/Kota Ibushi) face the Suzuki-Gun team of Dangerous Tekkers (Zack Sabre Jr [ZSJ]/Taichi).
During the New Japan Cup Taichi was able to defeat both Tanahashi and Ibushi in the first and second rounds respectively. Despite not being the current champions, Dangerous Tekkers has more pure tag team experience than Golden Ace, which could help them in the match is tightly contested. Dangerous Tekkers competed in the 2018 & 2019 World Tag League together as a team.
The NJPW website described the upcoming encounter and what led up to it in the following manner:
Despite questions over Golden☆Ace’s lack of experience as a team, Ibushi and Tanahashi won out in a Korakuen hall war on February 21, with Ibushi winning his first heavyweight tag team championships, and Tanahashi scoring his first tag titles in over 14 years. While both GoD and FinJuice had legitimate claims to a title opportunity though, it was Dangerous Tekkers leaping to the front of the queue. Taichi and Zack Sabre Junior attacked after the Korakuen bell and made their title intentions painfully clear.
A victory for ZSJ would give him further momentum as he prepares for a future match against IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion Jon Moxley, who is also the All Elite Wrestling (AEW) World Champion. A victory would also cement Taichi’s progress as a heavyweight and legit player in the division.
After defeats in singles action at Wrestle Kingdom 14, Tanahashi and Ibushi would like to keep their positive momentum as a team going while both rebound from their disappointment in January. If the champions can retain, they would likely look forward to facing FinJuice (Juice Robinson/David Finlay) when they can travel back to Japan.
