Last night at AEW Double Or Nothing 2023 – fans saw one of the most chaotic main events in professional wrestling history. Blackpool Combat Club met The Elite in the second ever Anarchy In The Arena match – with Don Callis key to the finish. You can read a full breakdown of the match here.
Alongside Konosuke Takeshita, Callis again stood with the BCC and dealt a fatal blow to Kenny Omega. This came after Callis literally stabbed Omega in the back during a steel cage match with Jon Moxley. Callis still has love in his heart for Omega, but feels he’s gone down the wrong path by continuing to associate with The Young Bucks.
Don Callis Compares The Young Bucks To Wood Ticks, Claims They Ruined The Perfect Vision Of Kenny Omega’s Career
Ahead of Double Or Nothing 2023, Don Callis would sit down with Jim Ross – and explained why he betrayed Kenny Omega.
“Kenny Omega chose his friends over his family. The Young Bucks, and apparently now Hangman Page. I never wanted the association with the Young Bucks. I have nothing against those kids. It’s well known they are nice kids. The problem is, they drag Kenny down. You have one guy who is Albert Einstein and you have another couple of guys who just want to have fun. I brought them into The Elite when I came here because I thought, ‘Kenny can’t work all the time. He needs something that makes him happy other than me.’ The problem is, the Bucks are like wood ticks. They attach themselves and it’s like an infection and all of a sudden, Kenny wants to do trios matches. I had a vision for Kenny Omega that we’d be a modern day Bobby Heenan and Nick Bockwinkel. Kenny chose to be one of the three stooges with the Young Bucks.”
Omega’s rise to the top in professional wrestling is something Callis continues to take heavy credit for. The match with Chris Jericho that started the series of events that led to the creation of All Elite Wrestling is something Callis claims only happened because of him.
Along with many of the other major moments in the career of Omega, including winning the AEW World Championship. Like most great villains, it’s hard to deny he has a point.
Callis & Takeshita are not yet confirmed as members of the Blackpool Combat Club. How pivotal to the success of Kenny Omega is Don Callis? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
