Right now, AAA has a potentially major star on their hands in El Hijo Del Vikingo. The current AAA Mega Champion has been one of the most exciting luchadors to watch in recent years, and has his eyes on the match that got away from him. In 2021, Vikingo was set to face Kenny Omega over the AAA Mega Championship, only for Omega to be forced to vacate the title due to injuries. Now as we close in on 2023, Vikingo is considering going to AEW for his match with Omega.
El Hijo Del Vikingo Is Ready To Hunt For Kenny Omega Match In AEW
While speaking with Denise Salcedo of Instinct Culture, Vikingo would express interest in finally getting his long awaited match with Kenny Omega. Vikingo would be quoted saying the following about Omega.
“The third time’s the charm. It’s now been two occasions that Kenny Omega and I were gonna wrestle, but for this and that, it wasn’t able to happen, but now I have the Visa. So if he doesn’t come (to Mexico), then I will go look for him. Expect some big surprises. Why not have ‘El Gran Jinete’ go and look for him in his own house? Anything can happen. My home, AAA, is always giving surprises. I don’t know, maybe in the future, I will go to his house, or him in ours, or somewhere in the middle. Anything can happen,”
Vikingo would recently get a work visa for the United States, and has made his debut for Game Changer Wrestling, while also being announced for Pro Wrestling Guerilla’s Battle of Los Angeles tournament. AAA have placed hefty restrictions on matches with Vikingo when it comes to streaming shows, but given the working relationship between AAA & AEW – it’s possible that might not be an issue when setting up a match with Omega.
Right now, Omega is in the middle of a Best of Seven series with Death Triangle in AEW, and is set to return to New Japan Pro Wrestling to wrestle Will Ospreay at Wrestle Kingdom 17 in Tokyo Dome. It’s likely any plans with Vikingo would have to wait until previously booked matches are complete.
