If you ask most AEW fans what the weak link on their shows is, they’ll generally point towards the lacking Women’s division. At a glance, this fair. Especially when compared to the Men’s Single or Tag Team divisions, their Women’s roster fails to reach the same heights. They have a talented roster with the likes of Hikaru Shida, Kris Statlander, Britt Baker, and more, but there’s something holding them back.
Kris Statlander Explains Why The Women’s Division Has Problems
During an Q&A session with Earth’s favorite alien, Statlander would give her take on what is holding the division back.
“It’s valid to accept criticism, but people have to remember that almost every single girl that got signed has never worked on TV before. A lot of men on the roster have worked on TV, and if they haven’t they’re working with people who have been on TV. We’re just learning as we go. We’re trying our hardest and doing training before TV every single taping.
People that think we’re sitting on our butts and hoping things will be handed to us; we’re trying as hard as we can. There’s only so much we can do and only so much time we can get in a two hour show. There’s Dark, obviously, but it’s not live TV. People need to give it time.
A lot of these girls, including myself, are working on TV for the first time and we’re not doing matches each week. I believe that we can do better, but Rome wasn’t built in a day. It’s going to take time and everyone has to accept that.”
Set To Return Soon?
The AEW Women’s division will reach the same heights in time, but until then? We will sadly only get brief glimmers of greatness on Dynamite. As they sign more experienced names like Serena Deeb and Thunder Rosa, things improve. Getting Statlander back alone will be a big help, after she got injured in June of 2020.
From the same Q&A, she noted that she is closed to being healed of her ACL tear. Statlander should be back in mid to late 2021 at the latest, and could instantly step into a top role once again
Do you agree with Statlander that a lack of TV experience is what’s holding their Women’s division back? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
