Ridge Holland was set to become one of the biggest names in NXT back in 2020. He had been revealed as the man who took out Adam Cole during NXT Takeover 31, having been paid off by Pat McAfee. However, during an exhibition match with Oney Lorcan, he’d end up blowing out both of his legs while catching a dive. He had fractured and dislocated his ankle on his left leg and ruptured his patella tendon and dislocated his kneecap on his right leg. It was a freak injury, but that won’t stop Holland.
Ridge Holland Is At The WWE Performance Center Daily While He Rehabs
Given the severity of his injuries, no one expected to hear much about Holland until at least a year after. However, a report from PWInsider indicates that he is already working on a return to the ring. Holland has been seen daily at the WWE Performance Center, working hard as he rehabs his leg, working towards getting cleared to return to the ring.
His attitude and hard work have gotten him praise, and a positive attitude can genuinely help someone on the road to recovery from a major injury. There is still no timetable for this return, but for him to be this far along just 8 months after he fell shows great promise.
Holland Is Going To Be A Top Star
Speaking of great promise, Holland in general shows great promise in WWE. Provided he makes a full recovery and doesn’t show an injury trend, his ceiling is very high in WWE. At 6’1 and 251lbs, he’s the size of competitor that WWE looks for, and matches with WALTER & Johnny Gargano showed confidence in his abilities. We likely would have gotten to see him be a major part in the 2020 WarGames match alongside Pat McAfee and Pete Dunne, and have a major singles encounter with Adam Cole.
Fans are a sucker for a strong return from major injury, and that could allow Holland to return as a top name for NXT. He was set for a major push, and will likely still get that. It’s not impossible to see him as a future NXT Champion within the next two years, if not sooner depending on how his return goes.
