On December 12th, New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) presented the Super J Cup 2020 tournament. The one-night campaign would crown a new trophy winner the day after former three-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion, Best of the Super Juniors 25 (BOSJ 25), and Los Ingobernables de Japon (LIJ) member “Time Bomb” Hiromu Takahashi won the BOSJ 27 trophy.
The first semi-finals match of the single-elimination tournament saw ACH take on Chris Bey. ACH was able to gain an opening-round victory against Original NJPW Los Angeles (LA) Dojo graduated TJP. Bey qualified for the round after defeating NJPW LA Dojo Young Lion and Lion’s Break Crown 2020 winner Clark Connors.
Both wrestlers were feeling the after-effects of their opening round match, with Chris Bey using the opportunity to work over ACH’s back as the former Impact Wrestling X-Division Champion looked to put his name on the map by winning Super J Cup 2020.
However, ACH showed his perseverance as he used his strength advantage to batter the far smaller Junior Heavyweight. Despite his best efforts, Bey was unable to capture the fall, with ACH doing so at the 8 minutes and 27 seconds mark with his Midnight Star 450 Splash technique.
The victory for ACH means he moves on to the Super J Cup 2020 Finals, yet he goes into that match with a compromised back. While Chris Bey came up short of the finals, he represented himself well. With working agreements between the IWGP Conception (NJPW, Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre, Revolution Pro Wrestling, and Ring of Honor) and other promotions up in the air, it’s possible Bey could see more time within an NJPW ring.
ACH who is a regular on NJPW Strong is in a position to make a return to the main touring branch in Japan and will do so with a finals victory.
