AEW Dynamite is on tonight and as always we here at the Overtimer will give you the same in-depth coverage you’ve come to expect. That means a live recap and results, plus an in-depth look at everything’s that’s on tap! As usual Dynamite has a fair few matches announced in advance tonight so let’s get to it! The TNT Championship Tournament Semi Finals are on here tonight!
TNT Championship Tournament Semi Finals: Cody vs. Darby Allin
Admittedly already in progress by the time I got to writing this, thanks to being held up before the show… but this has all the potential in the world to be the match of the tournament given the feud between the two of them. It’s always seemed to me like the long-term plan is for Darby Allin to not only be a star, but to do this specifically by finally defeating Cody. He’s faced off with him twice, lost once and got a draw in the first. He’ll get closer every time but keep falling short until the day comes that they’re ready to go all the way with him as a main eventer. I think in some ways Cody sees himself as the Ric Flair to Darby’s Sting.
So while one day Darby will get this W and in a big way, but it’ll probably be his setup to going for the AEW World Championship rather than the TNT Championship. It’ll be a hell of a battle (and is as I speak!) but I think Cody takes it. For now.
TNT Championship Tournament Semi Finals: Dustin Rhodes vs. Lance Archer
Lance Archer has for a while now been slowly building up a feud against Cody. It was the direct transition from MJF for Cody, as Jake Roberts debuted to berate him and warn him that Archer was coming for him. So it was only natural that it happen this way. Cody will presumably win in the other semi, as Archer takes on his brother Dustin right here. He’ll most likely really destroy him here too. Not only will Lance Archer win this match, but I assume he’ll take it to Dustin afterwards, forcing Cody to come out to make the save.
This will naturally set up a Lance Archer/Cody final. It’s the obvious thing because it’s the clearly right thing, nothing wrong with that.
