Tonight is another PPV in the age of the Pandemic, and I can only imagine what people will think looking back on these shows years from now. This time around it’s WWE Backlash 2020! You can expect the same coverage as any major event gets from the Overtimer, including in-depth previews of each match… is what I’d like to say but an error with my laptop means I can’t really do that. So for the major matches we’re getting one big preview!

Edge vs. Randy Orton

It’s not going to be the greatest match ever. It might be the greatest WWE match of the year, excluding Takeovers. That’s a much more attainable goal. It could certainly be great. But I don’t think either men really appreciate the tagline so much, atleast that’s what I’ve gathered from following them. It’s just impossible to live up to, especially in these conditions. But I know they’ll do their best and I’ll simply judge it based off that. I imagine Edge will win since this feels very final to me and he’s likely going to move on to his next major opponent. Incidentally this match was taped in advance, is said to have lasted around 30-40 minutes and is expected to be edited to ensure as close to perfection as possible. Given the card and the tagline for Backlash it seems very much like it will be the main event.

WWE Universal Championship: Braun Strowman (c) vs. John Morrison & The Miz

This world title match was largely built by pranks, which fits the image WWE has had over the past couple of months. It’s, really the very definition of a filler feud for a champion that, himself, feels very much like a filler champion. Though what we’re even waiting for is hard to say at this rate. Anyway Strowman to retain of course. If the title changes here than they’ll need to check the Performance Center for a gas leak, honestly.

WWE Championship: Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Bobby Lashley

This bout has been built up pretty solidly as a physical battle between two men with fairly similar backgrounds, both men that were meant to be headlining PPVs for world titles a decade or so ago but are only getting to finally achieve that now. But I imagine it’ll end up being a pretty short lived feud in the grand scheme of things. Drew McIntyre to retain.

Indeed I’m predicting every title to remain where it is tonight which seems like a potential mistake on my part but I’m just not feeling any switches in any of these bouts.

I’m a hardcore wrestling fan, by which I mean I’m a hardcore fan of wrestling... but I also have nothing against hardcore wrestling! I’ve been watching since 2006, back when I was 12 years old. In that time I’ve fervently followed WWE, TNA, ROH, Lucha Underground and others. Today I’m most passionate about NXT, New Japan and especially AEW! You could call me a modern wrestling savant but I know my old school stuff as well... I’ll be your huckleberry all night long.
