When it comes to WWE, there are a few matches that happen every week without much notice. Between WWE 205 Live, Main Event, and Dark Matches ahead of Smackdown Live, we have about six matches this week that might have gone under your radar. From Keith Lee appearing ahead of Smackdown, some great tag team action on Main Event, and the usual fare on 205 Live. Let’s break all this action down.
Keith Lee Is Getting Back Into Shape
Last week ahead of Smackdown Live, fans in the arena were able to see two matches before the main show began. The first featured two names from the NXT Brand, as Ridge Holland defeated Austin Theory. Theory is expected to leave NXT in the coming WWE Draft, while it’s clear just looking at Ridge Holland that Vince McMahon will be interested in bringing him up as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, RAW star Keith Lee had a match against indy veteran Andy Palafox. Keith Lee has been working dark matches lately as he gets back into ring shape following a rough battle with COVID-19. This will usually be against local talent like Palafox, and have been coming ahead of both RAW & Smackdown. Lee will be back on TV very soon hopefully, but WWE were wise to give him this time to readjust. Reports of the match note that he worked a heel style on Smackdown.
Before RAW this week, WWE Main Event was also taped. This show saw Jeff Hardy take on fellow veteran Shelton Benjamin in a winning effort. Hardy has been a frequent flier on Main Event as of late, perhaps simply due to WWE wanting to keep him in shape until a storyline spot opens up. The main event of Main Event was The Viking Raiders taking on The Lucha House Party in a match worth seeking out, with Viking Raiders getting a win.
205 Live Status: Still Existing, With Heavyweight Presence
Despite the Cruiserweight division being gutted by recent releases in WWE, their show remains in its usual time slot. Even though it matches up against AEW Rampage, WWE has made no attempt to battle using 205 Live, instead using it for the typical cruiserweight matches as always with its limited players, and some heavyweights.
On this week’s episode, Greyson Waller will defeat Andre Chase in the opening. This makes yet another loss for Chase, who’s sole win in WWE came against rookie Guru Rajj to get into the WWE NXT Breakout Tournament. The main event will see Ikeman Jiro go head to head with Trey Baxter in a match which should be one worth seeking out, for the great action it promises despite no storyline relevance.
