Andrade has been riding high lately in WWE. He is the current United States Champion, and is pushing to be one of WWE’s biggest stars going forward. He is currently in a heated feud with fellow luchador Rey Mysterio, which will continue as they have a ladder match next week on Monday Night RAW. But is Andrade already looking past Rey Mysterio onto a bigger challenger? A Q&A session for BT Sports which is the new home of WWE programming in the UK was held today. Andrade appeared alongisde his fiancee Charlotte Flair, Ric Flair, Paige, and Cain Velasquez. This is where he laid down the future challenge.
Cain Velasquez In WWE
Cain Velasquez was signed to WWE in 2019, and prior to that he had a few appearences down in Mexico. He is also of course a legend of MMA, having beaten Brock Lesnar to a bloody pulp in the past in the octagon. His WWE career got off to a rough start, as he was rushed into a WWE Championship match with Brock Lesnar for Crown Jewel, a match he apparently worked injured. We haven’t seen him since as he is rehabbing a knee injury. Once healthy, he will be a major star for WWE due to his crossover appeal.
In his match with Brock Lesnar, they took a faux MMA approach, but in Mexico Cain Velasquez wrestled a shockingly fast paced lucha-libre style. We could see this emerge if he ends up facing Andrade.
Could Andrade vs. Cain Be A Wrestlemania Match?
Given that Cain will need time to heal up and be established as a championship contender following being mauled by Lesnar, giving it a few months to build and having the story climax at Wrestlemania seems perfect. Andrade is nearly through with Rey Mysterio, then he can focus on toppling another huge Hispanic star on his quest to become ‘King of the Latinos‘. Fans would much rather see this match than another encounter between Brock & Cain, as Andrade could handle the heavy lifting in this match and make Cain look like a wrestling superstar. He might be a star in MMA, but he needs to earn his name in professional wrestling, and this feud could easily do that.
