One of the joys of professional wrestling is that in can often blur the lines between reality and fiction. It is an artform to walk along that line without swaying too much in a single direction. Recently, it seemed like rising star Chris Brookes had some bones to pick with Progress Wrestling. He hadn’t been seen on a show of theirs since September, and despite being a huge star for them never got a proper send off. He claimed he was told in September that there was no place for him in Progress anymore. With him about to leave the UK to take Japan as part of the DDT roster, it seemed like this could have been legitimate.
Progress Played Their Fans
However, Progress successfully pulled the wool over the eyes of wrestling fans everywhere. Another part of his grieving was that he was the one who had been campaigning to bring in the man who is currently their champion, Cara Noir. Brookes advocated for Noir coming into Progress, and seemingly was replaced by the man who he brought to the dance. This was just another layer of the storyline at play. Now we will see Chris Brookes get his long awaited shot at the Progress Championship, as he faces Cara Noir at Progress Chapter #102.
Will Chris Brookes Get Cheered Over Cara Noir?
This match might not work out as Progress would like. They want Cara Noir to be their new strong babyface champion. Yet this set up puts a lot of sympathy in the corner of Chris Brookes. Add in the fact that he is about to leave the UK for an extended period of time, meaning this will be one of the last times fans will see him for a while, and you have a tricky situation. Fans will be cheering for Brookes, as they usually will. This might also lead to fans going against Noir. A face vs. face matchup is something which can work, but it’s a fine line to walk. It feels obvious that Noir will retain given the situation, and the match should be fantastic, but the crowd on that night might determine how things will be go for Noir as his reign goes forward.
