For a few years now, Impact Wrestling has been running a 24/7 Twitch Stream which has been showing both old content and live specials. They were one of the few promotions to try and use the giant streaming platform to get their brand out there, and it has had good success up until this point. They likely make some money off of subscriptions on the platform, and it offers one of my ways for fans to keep up with all the action. Last week however, they were banned from the platform.
Why Was Impact Wrestling Banned?
The Twitch Guidelines are a rather strict set of rules which will dictate what is allowed on the platform. It wasn’t the violence that sunk them, but rather some partial nudity in a recent RVD segment. His new heel persona is accompanied by his fiance, and they have been shooting rather steamy promos in locations such as hot tubs. This latest segment where Rob Van Dam was “celebrating” his win from the recent Hard to Kill pay-per-view event. Van Dam is seen in bed with his girlfriend and his girlfriend’s girlfriend. What proceeds is a highly sexual scene involving blurred nudity and whipped cream. Despite it being blurred it was enough to get them booted off the platform.
Twitch Should Know Better, Impact Always Finds A Way
Over their 18 years as a promotion, they have survived much worse disasters than getting their Twitch Channel banned. They would contact the admins and the ban has since been lifted after the channel was down for a week. With it being their first offense, they simply had to serve their sentence but they will need to be more cautious in the future. Twitch is a very good platform for them, and not one they would want to lose over poor management of content which is shown. They likely won’t shy away from the type of content which they got banned for, but they will likely just forego displaying it on Twitch going forward.
Impact didn’t comment on the ban, but did announce it has been lifted. It was a fairly cut and dry situation, and will fade amongst bigger controversy in the wrestling world, including their own company.
