The WWE is always on the lookout for talent they feel can add to their product, and their current target is former Intercontinental and tag team champion John Morrison.
What he’s been up to
Since leaving the WWE in 2011, Morrison, or Hennigan (his real name), has wrestled the independent circuit before being the workhorse in the lucha libre promotions Lucha Underground and Lucha Libre AAA under the name Johnny Mundo.
He was a workhorse in Lucha Undergound when it first began along with Richochet under the name Prince Puma. Thanks to their rivalry, the promotion grew and became a viable and entertaining promotion.
Where’s he going
With his return to the WWE, it’s brought up the question as to which promotion he’s going to. No public announcement has been made yet, so it’s anyone’s guess. Raw, Smackdown, or even NXT are reportedly in the discussion.
Of course, any decision will probably wait until the draft or after the draft. While it’s highly debatable how random the draft is, one way to tell how they feel about a talent is to see how high they go. Morrison could be a surprise high pick for either brand. It’d get people talking, wondering if the powers-that-be lost their collective minds or had a stroke of genius. Bad publicity is good publicity, right?
No matter where he goes, as a fan, it’d be great to see him work with Ricochet again as their matches in Lucha Underground were awesome. The possibilities with them together as a team or rivalry are countless and would inject new blood into the fray. It’d be a fun rivalry to say the least, and the two could push each other to greater heights for themselves and the fans.
