John Morrison finally competes in his official return match here tonight! It’s that time of the week again, folks. Yep, time for another edition of Friday Night SmackDown! With the Royal Rumble and the vaunted WrestleMania season fast approaching, it’s an important time for positioning. Everyone’s keeping a particularly close eye on those that gain momentum right around this point. After all, it’s fair to say that every wrestling fan wants to know how Mania’s gonna shape up.
Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here and as always, I’ll be here giving you the previews for the show, as well as the live recap and results! There’s actually a fair bit on tap this go-round, not common for main roster shows. Except this week apparently, as Raw also gave me more to work with than usual… gotta appreciate it! Anyway, let’s get to it!
John Morrison vs. Big E
Morrison’s return to WWE coincided with the Miz’s assault on Kofi Kingston following a loss. As John Morrison allied himself with his former partner, reforming a highly regarded tandem, they quickly positioned themselves opposite the New Day. Which isn’t a bad place to be, considering they’re the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champions. It’s pretty clear that a title match is incoming soon. Personally, Miz & Morrison vs. New Day for the tag titles sounds like a Mania match to me, but I dunno if it’ll take that long.
Either way, I’m pretty hyped for this match! It’s Morrison’s first WWE match in over 8 years, for starters. Additionally these two are fantastic athletes in widely different ways, and E makes for a very interesting first opponent for Morrison here on his big return. This should really be all sorts of fun, though with Miz and Kofi in their respective corners and a tag feud brewing, odds are good it’ll be interference-ridden. Even so, I’ll enjoy it. John Morrison wins of course, can’t come back on a loss.
