Following Sin Cara, Luke Harper is the next to be granted his release from WWE. He requested his release months ago on Twitter, taking issue with WWE adding the time he was injured to his contract. Today it was finally granted.
Luke Harper In WWE
The former Wyatt family member has been directionless since the faction disbanded. He had a brief run with Erick Rowan as The Bludgeon Brothers, vanished again, appeared to help Rowan in his feud with Daniel Bryan & Roman Reigns, then shockingly vanished once again.
He has consistently proven to be someone the fans want to get behind, and someone who delivers in big match situations. Yet WWE never gave him a sustained push as a singles wrestler.
The Return Of Brodie Lee
A few weeks ago, Luke Harper filed a trademark for his old ring name ‘Brodie Lee’, but fans didn’t think it meant much. Just him securing his brand for the day whenever it would come. Turns out that day has come much earlier than any of us could have reasonably assumed. While Luke Harper wasn’t exactly what you’d call an ‘indy darling’, he was a prominent figure in companies like Chikara, Dragon Gate USA, National Wrestling Alliance, and even showed up in Ring Of Honor a few times.
Where Will The Road Lead For Harper?
At 6’7 and 285lbs, Luke Harper is a very big guy. A company like All Elite Wrestling might have no place for a high flyer like Sin Cara, but they are lacking big men. I don’t think he will immediately show up in the company, but I’m sure he is on their radar.
Anywhere Luke Harper goes, he will be a star. He has the skills, the size, and the otherworldly charisma that just draws fans to him. There are plenty of companies who would benefit from him, not just AEW. Impact Wrestling is always a welcoming home, Ring Of Honor has a paper thin roster, Major League Wrestling just lost their newest signee, Harper has options. While I don’t feel a family man like Harper would uproot to Japan, a man with his look and size would be a fan favorite there. Anywhere he goes, I will be watching.
