It was reported a few days ago that Marty Scurll had gotten a major contract offer from Ring Of Honor to stay. We can now confirm that he has now signed what could be the biggest deal in Ring Of Honor history. He will be making money akin to a main event player in WWE, for less dates. In addition to being a potential top star in the company, he will be taking over as head booker for the company.
What Happens With Delirious, The Current Head Booker Of Ring Of Honor?
Hunter “Delirious” Johnston will remain with the company in a creative capacity and will be working alongside Marty Scurll, however moving forward Scurll will have the lead position for creative. Scurll was heavily involved in all aspects of ROH’s event last night in Atlanta from a behind the scenes perspective.
That show ended with NWA Champion Nick Aldis interrupting the main event, which was a rematch from the World Title match from Final Battle. That shows that Marty will still be working with NWA, and we could even see more involvement between the two companies going forward. Atlanta is where NWA Powerrr is taped, so that could be the reason they chose to have Aldis involved at that show in particular.
Could Marty Scurll Be What Ring Of Honor Needs To Get Back On Track?
A long term complaint with Ring of Honor has been the lack of good storylines that make people actually want to tune in. The last truly memorable story in the company was back when Kevin Steen was terrorizing the company after being fired. Considering how long he has been known as Kevin Owens in WWE, that should tell you how long it’s been for Ring of Honor. Delerious has gotten a ton of flack for his poor choices on champions and lack of good stories being told. They always had good wrestling, but lacked everything else for nearly a decade.
Marty taking over that role could help inject a dose of freshness into the company. We will have to see if things improve, as Marty has reportedly already taken over this role. Ring Of Honor has just become worth keeping track of again. even just for the short term as we see how these changes effect everything.
