It has been a rough few years for Eddie Dennis. Despite finally making it to WWE as part of NXT UK, he would suffer a torn pectoral muscle back in April which would put him on the shelf for 6 months. He was finally able to return, have a major Takeover match with Trent Seven, where he would be victorious. NXT UK Taping spoilers indicate they would have a rematch in a street fight without padding on the ring corners. Trent Seven would win this match, and Dennis would lose more than expected.
Eddie Dennis Suffers Another Injury
It has been reported that in that match, he separated his shoulder. It’s unclear how long this injury will put Eddie Dennis on the shelf, but he has been forced to relinquish the Progress Wrestling Unified Championship. Progress at one point was the top independent promotion in all of Europe, and now works closely alongside WWE & NXT UK, sharing a lot of talent like Eddie Dennis. When a promotion that runs as infrequently as Progress is making you relinquish a championship, it is clear that you will not be out for only a few weeks. Progress will be running a Fatal Four Way match to determine a new champion.
Were His Sacrifices For Nothing?
Having now suffered two major injures nearly back to back, it raises a question regarding Eddie Dennis. The 33 year old Welshman was working two jobs up until recently. He was both a wrestler and the head-teacher at a school in Carmarthenshire. He would retire from teaching in 2016 to focus full time on his professional wrestling career. If injuries haven’t slowed him down, he would have found great success. Dennis is a very dynamic performer, being able to shine in both singles & tag team matches, but we could see companies get nervous about pushing him as a top star when he seems to be injury prone.
If nothing else, at least he has a steady profession in his back pocket if injuries continue to pile up. It would be a shame to see someone with such potential taken out of the game, but this is why it is important for a wrestler to always have a backup plan.
We here at The Overtimer wish Eddie Dennis a speedy recovery, and we hope to see him back very soon. Stay tuned to The Overtimer for more injury reports and news from all across the world of professional wrestling.
