Monday Night Raw will take place this evening as the fallout from a lacklustre TLC takes centre stage. The show will feature all of the aftermath following significant victories for the Kabuki Warriors, Bobby Lashley and The Viking Raiders on the red brand.
However, the main event for the night will see AJ Styles clash with Randy Orton. The feud between two of the most high profile stars in the WWE has been ongoing since Orton cost Styles his United States Championship in a match against Rey Mysterio. It should be a much bigger Raw than we have seen over recent weeks considering the size of the main event they are putting on. It’s very rare that we see a WrestleMania worthy match make the cut for weekly television, so fans should be excited for Monday’s show.
Previous Meetings
The superstars have clashed on numerous occasions since Styles arrived at the WWE, with their most recognised bout coming at WrestleMania 35. That bout came around as Orton continued to get in the face of the Phenomenal One, which led to Styles requesting the match on the grandest stage.
That match at the most recent Mania was the fourth-longest bout of the night, with Styles eventually running out the winner after 16:20. The rivalry never continued after that initial bout as Styles was moved to Raw, while Orton remained on SmackDown until being drafted a few months ago.
They also met at the WWE Starcade event earlier this year. However, the match wasn’t televised on the WWE Network, but Orton picked up the win after delivering a vicious RKO to Styles.
O.C Involvement
Unlike their previous meetings, Styles will be backed up Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows. The group have finally reunited since Styles is Raw, and they could become one of the most dominant factions over the next 12 months. It will an interesting turn of events because Orton is presumably the face in this storyline.
During their WrestleMania feud, Orton was the heel. This could be a long-running feud between the two, so fans should be surprised if this finish includes a lot of shenanigans. We expect this rivalry to continue up until the Royal Rumble, where they will likely end the feud before WrestleMania season.
If their previous matches are anything to go by, then this should be an enjoyable main event for Raw. Will you be tuning in to watch the action unfold?
