This weekend, we have an action packed weekend of wrestling with NWA: Into The Fire on Friday, Ring of Honor: Final Battle on Saturday, and WWE: Tables, Ladders & Chairs on Sunday. While NWA has been sold out for months and WWE is well on their way, Ring of Honor is struggling.
Ring Of Honor Final Battle
As of the time of writing, Ring Of Honor has sold about 800~ tickets out of 1,600. Considering the year, they’ve had, even that will be impressive attendance seeing as they only got around 450 tickets sold from their last major show, Death Before Dishonor. Last year they reported an 1800 person sell out for Final Battle, a very clear sign of just how far they have fallen.
This years Final Battle should be a very fun show, despite the bad press surrounding ROH. The main event of Rush vs. PCO for the ROH World Championship should be fantastic, while other matches like The Briscoes (Jay Briscoe & Mark Briscoe) vs. Jay Lethal & Jonathan Gresham for the ROH World Tag Team Championships and Bandido & Flamita vs. Villain Enterprises (Flip Gordon & Marty Scurll) should excite as well.
Final Battle is by far their biggest show of the year, so they pull out of their biggest matches but it’ll lack the big show feel with how few people will be in attendance by comparrison to recent years.
Can ROH Recover In 2020?
The writing almost seems to be on the wall for the company which opened their doors in 2002, and it will be hard for them to even make it to 2022 for their 20th anniversy on their current route. They have the steady finical backing of the Sinclair Broadcasting Group, but they have lost most of their fan-base to more exciting and well managed companies like AEW and Impact Wrestling.
They really need to buckle down, build back up some good will with their fans and talent, and maybe that could help them keep going into a new decade. But what they’re doing right now clearly isn’t working for them. It’s time for change.
