Seth Rollins is one of the top heels in WWE once again. After spending most of 2019 climbing his way back to the top of the company as Universal Champion, fans would turn on him after he took to Twitter to claim WWE is the best wrestling in the world. This was the moment where Seth Rollins was no longer ‘cool’.
Seth Rollins Is Not Cool
He has leaned into this on TV, with his character being a man who believes he is the man who will save Monday Night RAW. The leader Monday Night RAW needs, a messiah even. It seems he has also leaned into this in another way, with Black & Brave Wrestling (Seth Rollins own wrestling school in Iowa) releasing a new shirt. This shirt has a picture of a young Seth Rollins on it with the simple phrase “Not Cool”.
They launched orders for the shirt, and proceeded to sell out within a mere 10 minutes. This shows how sometimes in professional wrestling, you need to try to turn a negative into a positive. The fans had backlash against Seth Rollins for not being cool, so he releases a shirt they can proudly wear to show this opinion. It is similar to how WWE previously released ‘John Cena Sucks’ shirts at the peak of fans disinterest in him as a top guy. If you have backlash against a star, you can use this to your advantage.
Heels Are Cool
Ironically though, once Seth Rollins stopped being a whiny babyface on TV, and joined forces with The Authors Of Pain, fan interest quickly picked up around Rollins once again. He was able to show his full personality once again, and has quickly become one of the most popular figures in WWE once again. Seth Rollins had to become stale & unwanted to force a change, and now he is on his way to stardom once again.
His team up with Authors of Pain & now Buddy Murphy has potential to be a major faction for WWE going forward, especially if they can pull Becky Lynch in to dominate the womens division. They could hold all the gold on Monday Night RAW, similar to Undisputed Era in NXT.
