It seems like AEW has gained a new commentator full time. ECW Legend Tazz has been doing commentary full time in wrestling since his retirement back in 2002. He first worked on Smackdown alongside Micheal Cole, and would keep working as a commentator for WWE until his release in 2009. He would then go on to do the same job for Impact Wrestling, where he would stay until 2015. All Elite Wrestling will be his first major role in wrestling since that day.
Could Tazz Be The Voice Of AEW Dark?
With AEW Dark going to TNT at some point in the year, we will likely see the end of them having guest commentators simply joining Excalibur on a weekly basis. They are going to need a consistent set of voices for this show, and Tazz would be a perfect fit for this. The team of Excalibur & Tazz on a previous episode of AEW Dark was one of the best combinations they had tried, only topped by Excalibur & Chuck Taylor, who have called action together in Pro Wrestling Guerilla in the past to hilarious results.
Having an experienced and familiar voice to many wrestling fans on their new show could be crucial. I doubt they would want to religate the job to Jim Ross or Tony Schiavone, so Tazz would be the next best option. Tazz could also be put right on the Dynamite announce team, he certainly has the skill to do so, having filled in for Schiavone on the January 1st episode of Dynamite.
With Tazz having signed a multiyear deal, he has put a temporary pause on his podcast until he re-adapts to being on the road once again. His podcast is called The Taz Show, which is a downgrade from it’s previous name of The Human Podcast Machine.
