The Royal Rumble is fast approaching, but we are still none the wiser over who Brock Lesnar will be coming up against at the big pay per view. The Beast is set to appear on Monday Night Raw tonight, and some of the questions surrounding who it may be that he comes up against could be answered.
Lesnar hasn’t been seen on television for a number of weeks now since defeating Rey Mysterio at Survivor Series. The feud seems to have come to a logical conclusion, but where the current champion goes from there remains to be seen. There are a number of elite superstars that could step up for the challenge, but who is the most likely?
Kevin Owens
There isn’t any one hotter on the Raw roster right now than Kevin Owens. He has always been a fan favourite, but he is particularly thriving as a face at the moment. His dedication to his craft means that he is deserving of a title shot, but he could instead be set for a tag match at the Royal Rumble. He is currently involved in a bitter feud with Seth Rollins and the AOP, and with Samoa Joe in his corner, this match could steal the show at the PPV.
Owens has held the Universal title on one occasion, with that run coming to a disappointing end at the Fastlane event in 2017. That defeat to Goldberg set up a meeting between himself and Lesnar at WrestleMania, but Owens would have been disappointed with how he was swept aside.
Randy Orton
Another name that has been rumoured to be having a match with the Beast is Randy Orton. However, like Owens, he is also embroiled in a feud at present with AJ Styles, with the two likely to have a singles match at the Rumble. Fans may be pleased to see Orton in that feud, as the desire for a rematch between Orton and Lesnar may be minimal. The history between them is fairly interesting, but that is as far as the intrigue goes for this match.
Aleister Black
The arrival of Aleister Black on the main roster has been pretty underwhelming to this point, but a title shot against Lesnar could increase the intrigue in the character. It would certainly make for an interesting match. It isn’t really clear what Black has done over the past number of months to earn a title shot, but at present, he would be the standout pick since he isn’t in any other rivalry on television. Lesnar is able to have better matches with smaller guys, and this could be a shock contender for match of the night should it happen.
