Here’s a quick rundown of what went down at WWE Crown Jewel 2019.
Humberto Carrillo won the 20-man battle royal to determine AJ Styles’ challenger for later in the night.
Harper and Rowan teamed up during the match to clean house. The final four were Humberto, Cedric, Rowan and Harper. Rowan was the last one eliminated. Also R-Truth won the 24/7 title afterwards.
Surprisingly, the WWE title match opened the main card.
Brock Lesnar defeated Cain Velasquez to retain the WWE title.
This was treated as a pure MMA match apparently, in which Lesnar reversed a ground and pound spot into a kimura for the submission win at only 2:10. S’one way to cover for Cain’s lack of training… afterwards Lesnar nosold a chair shot from Rey Mysterio and threw him from the ring, destroyed Cain with the chair… and then Rey came back with the chair and it actually started hurting Lesnar and he chased him from the ring. Alright then.
Tag Team Turmoil Match for the WWE World Cup:
- Bobby Roode and Dolph Ziggler eliminate Lucha House Party.
- Roode and Ziggler eliminate Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder.
- Heavy Machinery eliminate Roode and Ziggler.
- The New Day eliminate Heavy Machinery.
- The New Day eliminate The B-Team.
- The New Day eliminate The Revival, so they retroactively earned that title match after all. The Revival beat them down afterwards.
- The OC eliminate The New Day.
- The OC eliminate the Viking Raiders to win the WWE World Cup.
Mansoor defeated Cesaro.
No big surprise there. Heard the match was fine, as expected.
Tyson Fury defeated Braun Strowman.
The match ended in count-out. Strowman hit a powerslam on Fury afterwards, so I guess this is getting a rematch.
AJ Styles defeated Humberto Carrillo to retain the WWE United States Championship.
Seems like this was a real good one.
Natalya defeated Lacey Evans.
Apparently there were a lot of little girls in the crowd that were really happy to see this, so that’s good. In addition to bodysuits the two women just straight-up wore T-Shirts the whole time, not risking even the vaguest of exposure.
Team Hogan defeated Team Flair.
Roman Reigns pinned Randy Orton with the spear.
The Fiend defeated Seth Rollins in a Falls Count Anywhere match to win the WWE Universal Championship.
This was by far the longest Fiend match to date and aside from the tag team turmoil, the longest match on the card at 21:50. The Fiend was thrown off a stage in a spot fitted with explosions, and still survived. Fiend ended up winning the match near the stage area looks like.
So yeah, The Fiend won the Universal title on Halloween, which is cute. They really just, should not have done that Hell In A Cell Match, that did nothing but hurt this feud and the Fiend as a character. But he’ll probably get a massive ovation when he brings that title to SmackDown. I can’t honestly say I think he’ll be ruined at this point. And it’s a credit to him, because they really tried with this booking, this was about the worst way you could’ve handled it. And yet, it’ll probably work out.
Now let’s see if he keeps the title past Survivor Series. Raw needs either him or Lesnar to lose to a Raw guy. In theory Rey and Brock should be happening there and Rey can take the WWE title to Raw.
