Ladies and gents, NXT UK TakeOver Blackpool II is on the horizon! That’s right, we have a big show from the UK coming up and holy crap this naming situation is terrible. Like okay, seriously, I’ll get to the previews in a second and I won’t put this bit on the others, but I gotta address this for a moment.
So, generally speaking we have to put the ‘WWE’ label in front of most NXT shows and such. I really would rather not but it’s what’s searchable and also more factual. If you buy a ticket to an NXT show, you’ll see ‘WWE NXT’ on there. I believe television guides also call it that. And even though it’s not really part of the official title here, for some reason they pasted a 2020 on the poster of this show. This is in spite of them already having numbered the event. And I say pasted because it barely looks like it belongs there. It seems like at the last minute they got really concerned people would confuse it with last year’s show, so they had an intern slap it on there real fast.
Because of all this, technically, the full name for this show is WWE NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool II 2020. I mean… wow. Isn’t that a mouthful? Imagine if the commentators had to say that whole thing, every time. That’s gotta be the most needlessly padded, unwieldy, search engine unfriendly name for a WWE event I’ve ever seen. But hey… what’s in a name, right? It’s gonna be a rockin’ show and that’s the important thing. Anyway hunger-fueled rant over, let’s get to the previews!
Trent Seven vs. Eddie Dennis
So here’s our big, rugged mean guy match. Going by the extremely limited sample pool, it seems as though they like having atleast one of these per UK TakeOver. It’s not something you see a ton of elsewhere in WWE. So it’s one of the things that helps this brand establish a unique identity. It’s sort of the rougher brand in general, little more gritty and hard-nosed. With that in mind this will certainly be quite the fight. Dennis is more tall than beefy but packs enough of a wallop to work as a heavyweight regardless. Trent is kind of the opposite, packing a regular amount of weight on a smaller frame. I have a friend who likes to call match-ups like this a battle of length vs. girth…
Together they should make for a fun fight, but as for who wins, I have to go with Eddie Dennis. His 2019 basically ended in February after he suffered a serious injury. Though he managed to return to the ring in September, he didn’t make his NXT UK comeback until two months later. In fact, going into NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool, this is just his second match for the brand since returning. I gotta figure he’s coming back with a vengeance, and will establish himself as a real threat again with this win.
NXT UK Takeover Blackpool II will also include:
NXT UK Women’s Championship: Kay Lee Ray (c) vs. Toni Storm vs. Piper Niven
