WWE Raw results and recap for Monday, May 6 starts off with who better to get the ball rolling after a pretty boring and, let’s face it, bad Raw than Vince McMahon himself. There’s an energy in the air when his music starts as we know we’re in for a tried and true entertaining boss-beat down or a new challenge issued. What happened wasn’t either of those, or anything else we may have been expecting or hoping for.
WWE Raw Monday, May 6 Results And Recap: Lars Sullivan Has Arrived… Manbeast Wrecks Havoc On Raw – WWE’s Newest Rising Star?
Good ole Mr. McMahon is center stage, ready to give us the direction and boost we want with the Money in the Bank pay-per-view only two weeks away, and we got it. Kinda? Sort of?
In record time, three Smackdown Live Superstars came out (Roman Reigns, Daniel Bryan, and Kofi Kingston) to cut some promos. Reigns played up his angle of the aggrieved employee who is doing what the fans want and accused McMahon and his “spoiled brats” (children) for lying to the fans when he said they were in charge. Bryan ridiculed Kingston’s career as a gimmick and his title victory lucky, to whick Kingston had to respond.
The long Raw Superstar there was Drew McIntyre, who came out to challenge Reigns to a Wrestlemania rematch, which was accepted. Bryan and Kingston were to square off for the WWE title in another rematch, and Vince took credit for it all, claiming it was his idea and he instituted the “Wild Card Rule” where three (later to be changed to four, but more on that in a bit) Superstars from the different brands would compete on the other at random.
In short, a quick fix was put in place until they figure out what to do next. In an ironic twist, it’s pretty awesome, but is that because last week’s was so bad? It’s possible, but rehashing old rivalries has always been the go-to fix-it when needed, so why not try and enjoy the ride until things get worked out?
While that was ending, AJ Styles and Seth Rollins came out and got into it a bit, to which Mr. McMahon made them tag partners against another team that was ready to go.
The big question was then, who would turn on who first?
WWE Raw Results: Bobby Lashley and Baron Corbin beat Seth Rollins and AJ Styles via pinfall
This was a pretty good match, all things considered. In the end, the team of Styles and Rollins didn’t work as Styles accidentally-on-purpose missed Corbin and hit Rollins with a Phenomenal Forearm, then left Rollins to their opponents by walking out of the match.
“Mr. Former” Baron Corbin hit Rollins with an End of Days and got the pinfall.
Obviously, it left a bad taste in Rollins mouth, and he later said he didn’t care if it was done accidentally or not, he was going to repay it. This is so going to be an awesome match at Money in the Bank.
WWE Raw Results: Braun Strowman takes Sami Zayn’s Trash Out
For weeks, we’ve had the (dis?)pleasure of listening to Zayn’s rants toward us fans, berating us for being selfish, etc etc. This week, he was kind enough to ask us if we had anything to complain about the show so far, and he admitted he thought it was great, too. Of course, he noted that despite that, we’d be miserable afterwards and would always be so. Just as he was getting warmed up, Braun Strowman’s music started and the giant of a man came to the ring.
Zayn tossed his mic to the side and started to remove his coat, but then turned and ran into the audience. Strowman gave chase, cutting him off a couple of times as they made their way backstage. As with any good horror movie chase scene (I’m sure we were all rooting for the “killer” Strowman this time, too, right?), Zayn corners himself by a garage door. He does managed to get it open, but Strowman drags him back in by his ankles, then tosses him in a dumpster, which was promptly emptied by a garbage truck.
This brought back so many memories, and like those times was fun to watch. More importantly, we may now have a rivalry that should be entertaining in the weeks to come.
WWE Raw Results: Lucha House Party beat Enhancement Talents via pinfall
Lucha House Party can’t get any respect. First, they’ve been mauled by the Viking Raiders the last two weeks, but this week their entrance and match bracket Strowman taking care of Zayn. On top of that, their opponents were never announced (it took some googling) and then they spent the minute the match lasted throttling one member of the other team before the pinfall.
It’s great they were finally on the other side of a beat down, but can’t they get a little more love timing and opponent wise? Seriously, what’s with all the jobber matches in prime time?
WWE Raw Results: Ricochet beat Rick Roode via pinfall
This one was… kinda weird storyline and timing wise. It has the feel of trying to force a rivalry, when one should already exist as Roode was the only one to beat Ricochet on Raw. Instead, this match came about because Roode talked with WWE executives that since he defeated Ricochet previously, he should be in contention for the Money in the Bank match. He was given his wish and the winner here would have Ricochet’s spot.
Ricochet won pretty handily after hitting his 630 for the pin.
WWE Raw: Invitations for All
Natalya and Naomi find invitations from none other than Lacey Evans addressed to them in the locker room. While they’re taking offense at being told to dress in formal attire while at ringside, Dana Brooke approaches them about the invitations. The final straw was the invitations being scented with peach cobbler, to which Natalya and Naomi agree “she’s got to go.”
Anticipation is growing.
WWE Raw: Samoa Joe does NOT beat down Rey Mysterio’s Son
After last week, it was safe to expect more than a semi-civilized discussion between the two. After leaving his father at his dressing room, Dominic was followed by Samoa Joe. Instead of attacking him, Samoa Joe more or less yelled at him about how he viewed Dominic lifting his father onto his shoulders as an attempt to embarrass him like his Wrestlemania win embarrassed Mysterio. He then told Dominic to deliver his message that “I very much look forward to defending this United States Championship at Money in the Bank.”
Then he let Dominic walk away. Seriously? Where the choke out/beat down message? Maybe it’ll happen next week?
WWE Raw: Becky Lynch pounds Lacey Evans
With Naomi, Dana Brooke, Natalya, and Alexa Bliss watching from the bottom of the ramp, Lacey Evans beats up, then KOs Ali Katrina, serving as another sacrificial jobber, with a Woman’s Right before pinning her.
Evans then begins her promo, warning those she invited to watch her performance against challenging her for the title if they won the Money in the Bank match.
Becky Lynch then arrived, and the women parted for her to pass as she returned the favor of the previous couple of weeks by beating up Evans in and out of the ring before Evans runs backstage. The women parted for her to pass, and effectively ended the anticipation that something more was going to happen. They really should have acted like it was a lumberjack match and threw her back in for “The Man” to finish.
WWE Raw Results: The Viking Raiders beat Curt Hawkins and Zach Ryder via pinfall
While this wasn’t a championship match, it still lacked anything that set it apart aside from pushing the Viking Raiders (former NXT tag champions as the War Raiders. They vacated the title on May 1 since they are no longer a part of NXT) into bigger and better things.
The match itself wasn’t bad, but it doesn’t seem the fans care about either team yet. That’s not good considering one of them are the current tag team champions.
The Viking Raiders hit the Viking Experience for the pin in what probably spells the doom for Hawkins and Ryder as champions.
Firefly Funhouse
Mercy the Buzzard was eating something in a box until Bray Wyatt asked him what it was. When Mercy refused to answer, Wyatt took a look and pulled out… pieces of Rambling Rabbit.
Wyatt then told Mercy he forgave him because everyone can be forgiven, as he was.
With that settled, Wyatt said it was picnic time and he joined a handful of children that didn’t look happy, but were enduring it. He picked out a stuffed sheep from a picnic basket and reminded us, “Remember fireflies, I’ll light the way. You just have to let me in.”
This wasn’t as enjoyable as the previous two installments, but it still points to something interesting on the horizon.
Roman Reigns beat Drew McIntyre via disqualification
An entertaining match that displayed McIntyre’s power and ability to reverse Reigns’ attacks more than anything. After hammering away on each other, Reigns hit a spear and had the win, but Shane McMahon and Elias attacked him.
The Miz, who had been waiting at Shane’s dressing room with a steel chair most of the night, ran out and chased Shane through the building. Shane ducked behind a wall and The Miz ran past, but Charly Caruso of course saw him and tried to interview Shane as he runs down the stairs to the garage.
Shane’s attacked by The Miz swinging the steel chair, but he hits The Miz below the belt and dives into the limo, which then pulls out.
In the ring, Elias and McIntyre are left double-teaming Reigns, which finishes with a Claymore Kick from McIntyre on Reigns.
WWE Raw Results: The Usos prank the Revival
After leaving the locker room laughing earlier, the Usos appear as the Revival are about to begin their match and point out they used some Usey Hot (Icy Hot) and it’s sweat/water activated. The Revival’s shorts begin to burn and they roll around, rubbing and dragging their behinds around the ring before the Usos offer them some water.
The Revival dump the water down their trunks, only to have the burning intensify and they run backstage.
While it wasn’t the best of skits, the Revival did an awesome job selling it and the Usos played their parts perfectly as well.
WWE Raw Results: Lars Sullivan… Again
As he’s shown thus far, Lars Sullivan doesn’t care about the rules, hence why he became the fourth Smackdown Live Superstar to appear on Raw. And like his previous appearances, he caused some mayhem for the talent on hand. This time, it was No Way Jose and his conga line.
Lars made short work of them all, but No Way Jose showed some gumption by trying to help his people not once, but twice. He failed utterly, but he still tried. As similar as this it to Brock Lesner’s first stint, this has become boring fast as no rivalries have appeared that could stand up to Lars.
This kinda popped the clutch when afterwards, Vince McMahon is on the phone describing his Wild Card Rule, and when asked about Lars, he said he may fire anyone not obeying the rule. Lars then entered his office and without saying a word, convinced McMahon to change the rule from three to four Superstars.
Hopefully, R-Truth and Matt Hardy team up to face Lars and give this some juice. It’d make sense, sine they’re the only repeat victims.
WWE Raw Results: Naomi is Honored
Between the Lars Sullivan massacre and Vine McMahon bit, Naomi was honored for her charity work and her induction into the Houston Boys and Girls Club. This is they type of story we don’t hear enough of, and it’s great to see her being recognized for her efforts.
WWE Championship Match. Kofi Kingston beats Daniel Bryan via pinfall
With the buildup through the episode, this was a pretty entertaining match as both worked well together and this had the feel of a pay-per-view match, but it wasn’t Wrestlemania caliber. There was a scary moment when Kingston took a back body drop over the top rope and landed hard, his head smacking into the mat. The referee checked on him, and the match continued, but Kingston was still shaking the cobwebs off throughout the remainder of the match.
As was typical of the night, the pair countered one another’s finishing moves several times before Kingston connected on his third Trouble in Paradise attempt and pinned Bryan for the win, cementing the title for the Money in the Bank pay-per-view. To be honest, it felt like there was going to be a surprise loss of the title, but Kingston’s run will continue and we’re in for the culmination of his and Kevin Owens’ story arc. Theirs should be a good one.
