It’s Friday and as always that means another episode of WWE SmackDown is on the horizon. As usual there’s not a ton to preview, as of three hours before the show. But that’s fine, as I don’t exactly have a lot of time to do this anyway! So let’s just jump right into what little is being offered.
“The Big Dog” Roman Reigns will be unchained for Friday Night SmackDown.
That’s… what they’re saying. Big Dog! Unchained! This is of course after he was very much chained, or rather handcuffed to a ringpost so that Dolph Ziggler and King Corbin could bury him in buckets of dog food. It was very much a WWE segment.
They’ve been trying to present Roman Reigns as a very dangerous man whenever he’s pushed too far, which King Corbin and his crew have been doing quite often. He decimated Robert Roode and wrote him off television some weeks ago. Last week, Corbin and Ziggler put him through quite the humiliation to say the least, so the idea is that he’ll be all the more aggressive and uncontrollable this week.
It seems very, very likely to me that Dolph Ziggler is going to be put on the shelf through some over-the-top means, leaving King Corbin with no allies left ahead of his TLC match with Reigns at WWE Tables, Ladders and Chairs. But who knows? Maybe Corbin will end up standing tall on this night anyway, getting that old reverse momentum going for him.
(For those unaware, reverse momentum refers to the phenomena where someone who wins on a given PPV gets beaten up by the loser on the go-home show. This is theoretically to keep them look strong but also make the result at the show seem like a surprise. However it’s since looped around to the point where anytime you have someone get beaten up days before a big match, it actually looks rather obvious that they will win. Therefore this isn’t employed much anymore.)
